We have a team to cheer for because of him, not because he bought the team, but because the moment he was drafted, he brought hope to this franchise. If there is one guy that needs to have his birthday celebrated in the Pens forum, it's his.
I'll post my favourite pic of him and one I still remember like it just happened yesterday.
Some of you might be too young to remember this, some might not have been even born when this happened but watch it, you'll still get chills watching Mario when he was at his best, even when he wasn't 100%.
There aren't many players that can breathe this much life into a team, he's saved the team a few times as a player (2x) and an owner, I don't recall any other athlete giving back to the city and team that made let him be what he was destined to be. So here's to Mario Lemieux, the man, the myth...the legend.
Oh yeah, it's that other legend's birthday today as well...Patrick Roy, but nobody cares about that right now.

Kinda crazy how they were both born the exact same day, month, AND year!

Fixed the youtube link for ya, you need to put the last letters and numbers there, not the whole link.
In your case, these letters and numbers ; pEdgiPEDa8w
Edit ; Oh yeah, happy birthday Mario!

Man, I probably wouldn't even like hockey if it weren't for the Pens drafting Mario and winning those 2 cups when I was a kid. I would've never paid enough attention to it to realize what a great sport it is. I'd probably just be your typical anti-hockey American right now if it wasn't for that.
I turn 18 next month so I never saw the Cup years in 91 and 92 (though I was alive for the 92 one). But growing up, my dad would always tell me these stories of Mario Lemieux and how good he was. I saw games of him on TV whenever they were showed and it blew my mind.
Then when he came back in 2001 (2000? forget the year), it was a special moment for me. The man who I've been hearing about for so many years and now to finally see was an awesome sports moment for me. When he scored that first goal against Toronto and Gary Thorne exclaimed, "MARIO! WELCOME BACK!"...good times.
So happy birthday to Mario and thank you for EVERYTHING that you have done for this franchise!
If people thought Lemieux was great when he came out of retirement, imagine how much better he was before his 1st retirement. It's a shame there are people that are too young to see him play when he was at his best.
Lemieux is about the only person I consider god-like, lol I know...sounds weird but when you are a diehard Pens fan, ML66 is the man. I have beaten up my brother for dissing Lemieux when we were younger.
The weird thing is that Lemieux did some crazy ***** when he wasn't really in great shape, he took conditioning really serious his 2nd time around. If he did that early on in his career, just imagine how much of a beast he would have been. I think he would have been a little more physical (something people forget about him, when push came to shove, Mario shoved back).
Greatest owner ever.
Wayne Gretzky, go take some notes you whiny deserter.
Happy Birthday Mario! One of the better moments as a child was meeting Mario at Bladerunners and getting him to sign a hockey stick of mine. Great guy.
