I am not a fan of this signing but I hope he can hold the pp fort while Markov is out.

Jeez calm down... You sound like Erika talking about Chipchura.

He'll be a 6th/7th D, just because we can't have two rookies on our D corp.

I knew he wouldn't go on a three game western road trip with only 6 d-men. Gainey is too methodical to do that. Although i'm only assuming he shows up for the road trip.

Can't see this being anything longer than a 1-year deal.

IMO, better than bringing back Brisebois, so I'm happy. This guy can actually put up some points.

Hope Weber will still get some playing time, though.

Spacek - Hamrlik
Mara - Weber
Gill - Gorges
MAB

It was obvious. We needed a 7th dman. I'm 100% sure it's a one year deal near the minimum.

Seriously, the guy will be a great addition for our team if he's used properly.

Give him a lot of ice time on the PP and when we need goals at the end of a game and he'll be fine.

What's the downside here. If he sucks we can put him down. All that's risked is money. Myself I hope he comes in with stuff to prove. No reason not to root for him.

Well at least we got injured early and got first crack at the available free agents. He is better than nothing the guy has respectable stats so even if he plays 60% of what you would expect form his stats sheet he is still probably better than the usual bottom pairing Dmen on most teams.

remember that this guy had a 46 pts season 3 years ago and has a CANNON.
he his also a RH shot.

I wouldn't be comfortable with him if we still had Rivet, Souray, Streit etc... since none of those guys were sound defensively and nor is MAB.

However, with Gill (who'll get better with time, as he'll get to know more his forwards and D partners), Gorges, Mara, Hamr, we are pretty sound defensively (although it doesn't show right now, again, they need time!!) and MAB, IMO, fits perfectly.

My pairings would be :

Spatch - Mara
Hamr - MAB
Gill - Gorges

if Martin doesn't want to break up the tcheck pairing, I'd then do :

Spatch - Hamr
Mara - MAB
Gill - Gorges

Well he's going to help the pp that's for sure, not that reliable defensively but maybe pairing him with Hamrlik or Spacek it might work.I like Weber and would have loved to see him get his hot this year but a year in Hamilton playing with PK will be even better for this franchise in the long run, both those kids will soon get their chance

The worst part of all this is only less than 10% of the people really pleased about this have even seen him play besides what they saw against the Habs.
MAB will be the new Patrice Brisebois, have fun making him the butt of your Habs defensive problem jokes. Trust me you and all the other french and english media will. Mark my words ! This was Habs management pressured into this by the local media once again !

No surprise here, logical move and a cheap one.

Journalist will be excited that we got another francophone.

Just hope his defensive play isn't as bad as people say. Anyway, it's not like he's gonna play 25 minutes per game.
