Call it what you want, but the general consensus was that, going into the season, the Kings were weak defensively and their goalies lacked experience. I haven't seen anything so far to change that evaluation.
That's fair. But while Quick **** the bed in game one, he made some fantastic saves early against San Jose that allowed us to get the first couple goals and eventually a 4 goal lead.

O'Donnell's presence on the backend should really calm our D down and help get them back to basics, which in turn helps Quick. I can't really call any goal scored against Quick last night a "soft goal." The Sharks have a ton of skill, and a PP consisting of Heatley, Thornton, Marleau, Setoguchi, Boyle, and Blake is going to be hard for any goalie/d-core to handle, regardless of the experience.

If the team is winning they can put castle gates at every entrance to Staples for all I care. If the win the SC I'll even dress up as a jester.

It wasn't pretty but it got the job done. The Kings expect to be in the playoff mix if not actually make the playoffs. To do that they need to take more points within the division, and especially from the Sharks. The last 5 years they lose this game.

I think you'll get a better feel for where the Kings stand after that 6 game road trip. In the first 2 games we've seen totally different teams, one that lost against one of the worst teams in the league last season and one that beat one of the best teams in the league last season. Stats-wise everything looks about right other than Quick's numbers.

And is also giving the defending cup champs a run for their money at the moment.

Richardson is a smart player, and its nice having some smarts on the 4th line.

I thought Richardson has shown some hustle/speed and is playing more as if he's fighting for a roster spot than he already has one.

the thing with phoenix though, is that at the beginning of every year they look like they're going to be decent, and yet every year they finish at or near the bottom. maybe that will change with the coaching change, but as with the kings, i'll have to see it to believe it.

I like Lewis, and Richardson is beige in my opinion, but, during the scrum after the Drewiske hit Richardson popped Demers in the head with a solid right and Demers just held on. Lewis had his gloves glued on and I honestly don't know how he didn't get a penalty.

It's the players fault all the way. The coaches indicate who is going out next, it is the player's responsibility to know who they are going on for.

I kinda like the castle entrance? (based on photos)

The Oilers do the same type of thing with a big Oil rig for every game.

I agree that Richardson's a smart player but so is Lewis. Personally, I'd take Ivanans out of the equation since Clune is a natural LW anyways.

That's what I'd like to see. A rotation between Clune and Ivanans and occasionally Harrold to fill in for either Richardson or Lewis. Maybe against meaner teams play both Clune and Ivanans.

It will also help to keep the competition up between Lewis and Richardson. Another place where Harrold's versatility comes in handy, makes sure neither of their jobs are immediately safe.

How is Justin Williams looking for the Kings in the 2 games?...is he ever going to get back to 20-30 goals in a season?...he had so much potential.

He has been decent, but not overly good. It is possible, he just needs to get more involved in plays with Kopitar and Smyth. He is doing the little things well and he still has 1st line ability. I think his legs will get back into sync with this and he will start putting up more points soon.

Yeah I think it's awesome!
Dallas, San Jose and Edmonton do it... And based on my NHL08 game Nashville and Detroit as well but I don't really know if it's all up to date in that regard...

Anyway, I think the castle theme is definetely one of the best! I love it, with the Kings logo's next to the doors and also when Quick walks out with his mask on: it's all perfect.

he's doing the little things alright, but he needs to do a BIG thing consistently, namely going to the front of the net. he's not going to score from the perimeter

The reason why Smyth and Kopitar have been so good is because of the space that Williams is creating with his speed.

Exactly, that is a big little thing he does, but he needs to start crashing the net and connecting some sound passes and he will see his point totals rise. The only shots I see him take is trying to snipe the corners from the outside so far.
