Official Slap Braydon Coburn Upside the Head Thread

Braydon has been horrendous in this, his contract, year. In a year when most players look to improve, he has looked worse they Randy Jones and Andrew Alberts. he has routinely been beat, whether by Alexander Semin or by whomever else feels like it.

His effort has been poor, he has failed to move his legs on multiple occasions. He has looked lazy and has failed to take the body.

We were all hopeful that he would play well this year, with less responsibilities and less pressure with the arrival of Chris Pronger. he now gets to play with Kimmo Timmonen, someone whom he has played well with before.

But now he gets beat 1-on-1, can not hold the puck in, makes lazy passes, fails to take the body, and is routinely out of position.

BTW, I did not just create this thread due to his play tonite. It has been the whole year and I thought it would be good to have a central place to talk about his play this year

alltough one thing. If coburn doesn't throw the puck into his own net we end up going to OT

He is what he is - a solid second pair guy.
I think alot of us thought he would be more but he is not. Some sloppy play, some great but still only 24, skates well and has size and wingspan. He is not playing well and has some serious lapses but in the long season I have faith in his game.
He does need a class = Pronger 101

No. No. No.

Coburn is a pure confidence player, how would a benching help him in any way? It's not like he isn't trying, he's just overthinking and making dumb mistakes. He just needs to get his confidence back, a benching would be hugely counterproductive.

Dudes, I am not posting this do to one game. And yes it is 4 games in, however watching him play....

He is 6'5" and has failed to take the body

Is out of position continuously in the defensive zone

Gotten out hustled to the puck mltiple time

I will be the first to say when he plays good. But is teh preseason and 4 games in, his play has been horrendous.

A better thread name would be.. Who is going to coach Braydon Coburn? Berube? Stevens? Homer? Who?

Pronger needs to hold a skate to his neck and have a long talk

I'm not saying you're wrong, but if that's a confidence player, what do you call a player who needs a kick in the ass to get him going? An unconfidence player?

And how do you know the difference? It can't just be that the one kind generally applies to offensive players and the other kind generally applies to defensive players.

As I said, Coburn has looked bad since the preseason. Playing unphysical and out of position. For a guy in a contract year, well, he looks bad...

Lazy is a good place to start. Uninspired would be next. Demotivated would be last.

Agreed. If they're going to bench offensive players for poor play, they should do the same with defensive players. Continuing to reward Coburn's poor play with even more ice time sends the wrong message that playing terribly is ok and accountable.

I'd be one of the first to defend Cobie, him being one of my favorites but his play has been very sub par, I mean WTF... But like stated it's only the 4th game and he has contributed a lot offensively... Although he does need a pronged elbow to the head... That should set him straight... No worries guys give it time.

Imagine if the Flyers weren't at the top of the Eastern Conference standings through four games.

If you can't imagine that, just think back to last year.
It's four games, and more than one Flyer has made key mistakes.
