Kings v. Blues. Post Game THOUGHTS & TIDBITS

Kings 2
Blues 1

Kings owned the 1st and 2nd period. Fell into a prevent defense in the 3rd.

Jack Johnson isn't a stud. He's the guy that studs envy. Big, mean, smart, and skilled...he's bringing sexy back.

Quick had a strong game, the type of game we saw from him last season. The type of game that gives me a semi.

Not even the Andy Murray Injury Virus (AMIV) could take down our boys tonight, though Doughty's lips got poutier, and Simmonds and Kopitar will need an ice bath.

Ryan Smyth is a hockey god. He is John the Baptist to the Kopitarian faith.

Brownie, Purcell and Stoll had a gritty game but is that really their role? I suppose so since none of them are known goal scorers.

Frolov had a couple of lazy shifts but overall he was in a lot of plays. Good grief though, he should have buried a couple of those.

Can't say enough good things about O'D.

The 4th line played relatively mistake free hockey and kept the Blues in check. Can't ask for anything more out of those three yet...

Handzus had another solid game.

I heard there was another game in St. Louis, but I don't like basketball...

3-6
6-4
6-3
2-1

We can win both high scoring and low scoring games. PK shaped up and Quick played great.

Jack Johnson was awesome! That's the Jack we all dreamed he would be, good game by Jack, except for being on the ice for the shorthander. But regardless he's going to be good.

That's how they need to play on the road.

Frolov was a beast tonight. Using his body well, making plays, solid defensively. This goes for Jack Johnson as well.

Handzus continues to earn his $4 million dollar paycheck.

Quick played like he did last year. Some huge saves.

Our PP turned completely flaccid in the third, which is disheartening.

Frolov should have buried that beautiful feed that Doughty gave him.

Kopitar and Smyth continue to put up points.

Williams frustrated me for the first time tonight. Grr, I say, GRR. Decent game, though.

JJ is the ****.

That is all.

I also like how Richardson has been playing, he may have locked up that 4th line center spot for a while.

I love the tidbits!

Nice W on the road tonight. Great (and needed) way to start the longest road trip of the season. The team has got to be feeling good about itself now that the PK is coming around. If that starts clicking, this team is going to be hard to beat.

no doubt. the blues played well overall, and i think it was a pretty even game. could easily have gone the other way, which is partly why it's so heartening to see the kings grind out a win tonight. they would have lost this game for sure last year.

Kings should have buried the game earlier. They had plenty of quality rushes and PP's when the game was 2-0. They did nothing on the two consecutive PP's near the end of the third. In fact, they actually gave up a goal in that stretch. I agree that Mason played very well but they had the Blues down and all they needed was a goal to put them away.

The Kings gave the Blues way too many chances to come back. They also played good D but if you give up that many chances the opposing team will capitalize most nights.

Good game from the D overall. Simmonds was a beast tonight.

True.

However, on the aforementioned Doughty play, that puck is in the net if Fro puts a little more mustard on his shot. Not that we should've expected anything different; Fro's wrist shot has always been and will likely always be slow and soft...its one redeeming attribute is that it's normally pretty accurate.

Far more frustrating in my mind, though, is the fact that he flubbed his bazillionth consecutive breakaway attempt.

he also stopped Brown on a breakaway earlier in the game... again, Mason isn't only a pretty good goaltender, he's even been pretty pretty good against the Kings.

Stopping Brown on the breakaway...or on anything else, for that matter...isn't too difficult these days.

Anyway, it's beside the point. I agree that Mason played well...but that doesn't change the fact that, in recent memory, Frolov has looked uninspired on the 1-on-0.
