Dallas looking for puck moving D,Brunnstrom available

Jim Matheson's Hockey World

Quote:
The Stars are definitely looking for a high-end puck-moving defenceman who can play the point on the power play, but they apparently won't trade winger James Neal or Loui Eriksson to get one. Fabian Brunnstrom could be had, however.
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...880/story.html

Too bad Kaberle doesn't want to play in the west. Some remaining members of Leafs management from the JFJ days(Jeff Jackson/Thommie Bergmann) after still around from when Toronto wanted Brunnstrom. Before Dave Nonis was fired in Vancouver,he was pursuing Brunnstrom. Vancouver coveted Brunnstrom when Nonis was at the helm.

There was a lot of fallout about the Leafs brain trust and Brunnstrom

Quote:
That's not the way Ferguson remembers the conversation. But he doesn't deny that, months later, when Brunnstrom was still unsigned and playing for Farjestad, the Leafs were among the teams suddenly expressing interest in his services. By that point, though, Brunnstrom's camp was said to be aware of the initial rebuff by the Leafs' higher-ups. And sure enough, just as Brunnstrom gave Toronto a pass, Button wasn't long for the Leafs.

If Brunnstrom is available in a trade, perhaps Joe Nieuwendyk and his former boss Brian Burke could swing a deal.

Maybe for Ian White?

If the Stars are really looking for a puck mover, than perhaps the Vancouver/Dallas rumour Eklund was going on about actually does hold some merrit? Although I don't really see a fit between the two teams.

Stars need to set their sights higher than that. White's not really an upgrade over Robidas, Niskanen, or Daley on the PP. And they already have Richards who has been great on the point on the PP thus far.

I wonder how Brunnstrom feels after all of this?

He had "demands" before signing with a team thinking he had earned that, and now he's on the trade block - just 1 season after signing a new deal.

I also doubt the Canucks still have interest in him... their forward situation is not where it was a year ago... no room for Brunnstrom, and no puck mover available for trade.

Toronto and Ian White does make the most sense, although I'm sure every Leafs fan will tell you they have no need for another potential 2nd line forward as they're loaded with them... still can't ignore the interest that Nonis had in him.

Than they likely need to be offering more than Fabian Brunnstrom.

If only Kaberle could be moved....

Something along the lines of Kaberle + for Brunnstrom and Dallas' 1st in 2010

True, just saying it doesnt make a whole lot of sense to add a defenseman thats not an upgrade over anything they already have. If they get really desperate(which they arent), they could always call up Vishnevskiy from the AHL and see if he can play like he did the last 3 games of last season.

I think this is just speculation based on the fact that apparently Brunnstrom is a healthy scratch for tonights game, and people think Dallas is desperate for another defenceman.

Really the defence has performed fine so far, I don't want another defenceman unless it is on the Stars' terms because a) Brunnstrom is going to be a fine player down the line, I'm definetly not in favor of a trade involving him and b) Adding anothe defenceman to the roster just ****s up the Stars depth charts down the line, as we have too many young defenceman making a push for playing time (Fistric, Vishnevskiy, Larsen).

Wouldn't do it, our PP will be abysmal without Kaberle and our team would be in shambles (not that we already aren't). I'd also rather not hand a division rival Taylor Hall.

If Dallas really needs a PMD, what about MVR? He can be had for a pick, although, you have to swallow a 2.9 cap hit (and I know the Stars have an internal budget).

Why would the Leafs want another forward without a heart and lack any physical play.

I agree. Brian Burke should continue on his present course of filling up the roster with talentless thugs that don't contribute anywhere.

I think Brunstrom would be great in tampa with Tanguay and Lecavalier here are the d-men:
Walker, Foster, Hale, Lashoff, Krajicek

I have to say that I agree with the reporting on this one. From a development stand point there is a quite bit standing in his way in Dallas. As much as I would hate to see him go he needs to be playing. High-end puck moving D is more than Ian White, yes it would take more than Brunnstrom but he would be the main piece. I could see this happening.

I haven't seen more than just highlights of Brunnstrom so I can't judge, but 17 goals in 55 games in your first season in the NHL seems pretty good to me. Is he heartless/gutless? I think in the future, a top 6 of

Kulemin/Tlusty/Other-Kadri-Kessel
Stalberg-Bozak-Brunnstrom

could work. How is his overall game?

I know this post was a joke. I was referring to players like Poni, hagman etc. They're all the same type of player.

Brunnstrom is not heartless. He has a ton of hustle in his game. His defensive game has always been his weak point. He has improved, but still has a ways to go. Yes he is a future top 6.

IMHO Brunnstrom has way more offensive upside than Hagman.

If you don't want Hagman, Dallas will take him back. You could have your pick of Krystopher Barch, Brian Sutherby, or Toby Peterson - all fine lads that have heart and all that other stuff that you need to win in today's modern NHL.

Brunnstrom, Auld, Daley, for Harding, Zidlicky.

Or skip Auld & Harding, Brunnstrom and Daley for Zidlicky and a pick.
