Hansen has surgery, out 4-6 weeks
Danish newspaper B.T. has spoken to Jannik Hansens father, Bent Hansen, about his sons injury. Jannik broke three fingers in his fight against Brule, and is having surgery right about now.
"He will be operated during the night to wednesday (Danish time) and will be out four to six weeks. He'll get a plate inserted in his hand and pins in two fingers."

I wonder how much those plates will affect his play during the season.

Thanks for the update. Hansen is going to be missed more than people realize. Lets hope after this that his fighting career is over.

I had that surgery. It SUCKS. When you get the cast off your hand is useless because the muscles have atrophied. And the pins hurt like a mother****er.
I feel bad for the guy.

What a waste. All that for a completely meaningless exchange of punches.

Well, usually when you're wearing a cast, your muscles will atrophy.

man Hansen is fragile. too bad, he could be a solid player if he could ever start a season without breaking something.

Just a small update from your personal Danish media watcher - sporten.dk has a comment from Jannik Hansen, and he had this to say:
"The operation went well. I have six pins in my three broken fingers. They'll remain there for three and a half weeks, and in about an month I'll be able to play again. A bitter accident and bad timing right before the season starts."
Source . (article is about Sundin retiring)

So if Hansen is saying one month, its probably more like 6 weeks (players are always over optimistic) ?

This isn't a rehab thing - broken bones heal ok. He should be able to maintain his conditioning.
The surgery took place a week and a half ago. Two weeks until the pins come out, and from the sounds of it, less than a week after that he should be playing. So Hansen should be back in 3 weeks.

At least with a hand injury his over-all conditioning should not suffer since he can continue skating and aerobic and most strength dryland training.
