I have high hopes for this, too -- because it's one of only two sets of line combos that seems to me offensively capable yet balanced, the other being:

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Laich
Semin - Morrison - Knuble

But since Semin should be a lot more comfortable with Backstrom, Boudreau's lines today are as balanced as we can probably get. I just hope he gives the current combination a real long look.

if they dont score or get scored 2 or more goals against in 2 periods these lines are kaput. book it.

ok....well...hell... i personally think gordon was excused from practice for counciling.

but if he is not LTIR injured, then the Caps dress 7 d. If Erskine AND Poti can't play, then they go one man short.

or...they dress Nylander but he doesnt play

If Flash is borderline being cleared (as in maybe ready by Thurs) then there's an excuse not to play Nyls, and perhaps a reason to "Eminger" Erskine or Gordon (or maybe they're just legitimately IR-bound).

Lord knows we can't risk waiving Sloan.

I'm fine with this as well. I didn't really think BB had the balls to break-up AO-NB.

My first reaction though is cautiousness as I'd like to see how both Knuble and BMo handle the 1st line time. As I mentioned a few days ago wrt this combo, it could mean that AO gets double shifted on the 4th line in order to limit BMo and Knuble's time by a few min while getting AO on the ice as needed. Also while BMo and Knuble have chemistry history. I want to see what BMo brings to AO. We know AO can score with anyone so its probably moot. But the possession that NB brings does open space for AO.

BB no longer an idiot.

I'm just soooooooo freaking glad that its not SOB or bust.

Quick thought -- if AO took shorter shifts, and maybe not play him the full PP, he could probably be double-shifted for extended periods in the game. It could be a huge boost to the team, having AO come out of nowhere against 3rd pairing guys..

It's not like he hasn't broken up AO-NB before. Usually it's to jumpstart Nicky or the 2nd line for a few games, then they're right back together.

yeah we've definitely seen it before for short periods of time. Philly playoffs.

I think the influence that Backstrom has on Semin is a higher boost than he does with AO. And I think that's what we're all hoping for.

so the f'ing twitters have two items of interest:
1) jurcina appears to be in line to sit. this, i have a problem with. he played about as well as he can play last night, and was in my opinion the best caps defender out there. no clue why you'd sit a guy after a very good game.

2) bruce and nylander talked for a long time. commence to begin the wild-ass speculation!

Yeah, Jurcina has earned the right not to sit. Don't like that move.

That's how Ovy got at least one of his goals against Philly. The one assisted by Matt Bradley.

Yeah...the guy leading the defense in +/- should not be among the rotation of scratches at this point.

Turns out Pothier was benched after the tying goal. Perhaps Pothier sits next, assuming Poti and Erskine stay in the line-up. Schultz practiced with Jurcina so maybe it's not Jurcina headed out of the line-up but rather Schultz getting in.

Are you guys getting this from Corey's twitter? He corrected himself later and said Juice was paired with Schultz.

Too bad erskine got hurt. It would have been funny to see what GMGM chooses: play Nyls or send down sloan to bring up a forward.

Watching Sloan get sent down and clear waivers would have made an entertaining day at work!

That said perhaps given the number of injuries Nyls may have to play. In that case maybe that's why BB and him had a long convo: "you're playing Nyls, but its not cause I like you."

I don't understand this. Has not Boudreau broken up Ovechkin and Backstrom the last two playoff seasons? Boudreau has a history of moving Backstrom off OV's line.

FWIW, the first time Pothier sat it wasn't after a bad game from what I recall. This time he had some struggles and it makes sense if he is next to sit a game although not sure which D to have in against the Sharks, I'd think Erskine would sit even if not hurt, although Shelley has been dressing for SJ.
