Hamilton will play Friday and Saturday. Bergeron will be more ready after those two games and I'm sure after those two, he will get the call up. For Shawn Belle, they didn't seem to like what Weber has done so far and they though he will be better for one-two games than Subban.

Weber wasn't getting it done in the NHL, as much as I hate to admit it.

That leaves Carle and Subban who, at this stage, are lesser versions of Weber... And Belle and Henry.

Henry's hurt.

Belle is recalled.
So basically, what you say is he's the 6th option.

Did any of you think that this is a way to showcase Belle and trade him?

Maybe, Bergeron is not ready since he had no training camp and Carle is not having a good start to the season after being discouraged for being cut from the Habs.

Bottom line is that without Markov, this team is doomed!!!

Wasn't expecting that, to me Bergeron was kind of obvious...

Well, we need better defensive D, and Belle is all that, plus he's very strong and a decent skater.

But that's a shock

Weber had a chance, didn't seize it.

They're quite clearly not rushing Subban or Carle prematurely.

Bergeron is going to fill the role long term, we all know that, but Martin said he needed more time.

Henry has been the traditional veteran "eat a couple minutes" recall, but is injured.

So, if you want to phrase it that way... sure.

I prefer to look at it as there is no point in rushing a prospect for two freaking games and Belle is the best of the veterans.

hf board posters >>> canadiens managment

Its obvious that MAB isnt ready, he played ONE AHL game.

Weber was picked apart on the West Coast trip, he obviously wasnt ready to step in.
Henry is hurt.
Carle was just an unimpressive as Belle, but at least he has NHL experience.

Its a 2 or 3 game move at most.

Relax. Either way, Weber and or MAB or Carle, I HOPE will not be the difference between winning and losing on our 6 game home stand.

I'm not sure how we could "rush" Carle... It's his 3rd AHL season and it's about time he gets his chance, especially with all the injuries now. So if the management thinks otherwise, it's a bit worrying for his NHL future...

This !!

Now, can you understand why I said that Gainey and his country club don't know how to evaluate talent properly to save their lives ?

Shawn Belle is not that bad... for an AHL player..., but I would take Weber, Subban, Bergeron and even Benoit before Shawn "1st rounder bust in 2003" Belle.

Agreed...

But that says more about Carle than it does the team, I think.

Worth a shot I guess. Better than rushing any of your younger players and having expectations slap them in the face. First home game, the pressure is going to be high, especially after this road trip.

Perhaps, but it's about what the team needs.

Clearly they wanted a more solid, defensive player. If that's the case, Belle is the obvious option. Martin didn't seem comfy giving Weber PP minutes and if you're not going to do that with him, you're not going to do that with Carle, Subban or Benoit.

Belle is better suited to playing 10 minutes at even strength.

I would have preferred Carle...

What are we suppose to do on powerplays now ? Wish the puck in ffs.

Gill and Belle will play together, I can almost sense it since the habs are just oozing with intelligence right now.

What's next, we need a goalie, so we call up Desjardins instead of Sanford ?

Kidding right? The kid is 24 years old. IMO he is one of our younger defenceman. He's been paying his dues in the AHL, give him a shot to see what he's got. It's not like we are bringing up a 35 year old career AHLer.

Just like all of you, I am stunned. The only other possible explanation is that Belle's cap hit is 500 K, while the 3 prospects are in the 850-875 K range. We're still only talking about a few days on the roster, it's not a huge amount of $.

You can just see this happening: Belle will look like the AHL d-man that he is and will end up playing less than 10 minutes per game in the two games he will play (JM made it clear Bergeron is staying with the Dogs for their games Friday and Saturday) and that will force the other 5 D's to be overused, which just doesn't seem like a good idea sans Markov.

I also don't understand why MAB has to play at least 3 AHL games while Chipchura was in a similar spot after missing all of camp and was immediately inserted into the lineup once Metro went down.
