Whats with people on this board? Belle is nowhere near as bad as people make him out to be. Remember Gorges? He was a no-name before being traded to Montreal but now he is playing well for us. Belle has some potential. People need to give him a chance before judging him. There is no risk by giving this guy a try. If he works out great, if he doesn't we send him back down. It's no big deal.

honestly, the way some of our D have been playing, does it really matter? We tried Weber, he was weak and small. Belle has some size, and he's more mobile than Gill. So we might as well try him.

my guess is JM wanted someone with size, he must not have been impressed with how easily Webber was pushed off the puck.

ok he had a bad pre-season, but he was arguably the best D in Hamilton all of last year, and deserves a shot.
Did you watch any dogs games last year. He wasn't even close, Dan Jan was voted the best and certainly Janik, Henry, Weber and at times Carle were better than him. In the playoffs Anderson was better than him. Said it in a post earlier bring up MAB and dress 7 dmen to cover if he can't take a full game.

Look at it the other way. Belle has paid his dues, he was the 2nd best defenseman in Hamilton last year and Carle has proven nothing. Maybe it would have been a slap in Belle's face if Carle had been recalled. Weber needs more experience and so does Carle. What is wrong with them paying their dues first.

He led the team +19, and hes big body, so I dont see how he was so inferior to the others. Hes filling in the role that JM needs right now for a big defenseman they lack since Ryan went out.

MAB will get his chance soon enough.
It makes more sense for him to get his conditioning up first.
i.e. play Full games in Hamilton rather than a couple of shifts up here.

Why is every one in such a hurry?
Its a long season - just trust Gainey and JM - they have tons of experience!

I'd like to see Belle get a shot, we have nothing to lose, Carle/Weber are not ready.

I've been saying all along, Belle should get a shot. The guy was solid the times I saw him play in Hamilton. Perfect defensive shut down guy with offensive upside.

Belle or any other ones = it won't make the difference.

So Belle will be ok for the next few games.

John Lu said this was a salary cap move, which I don't understand with so much money freed up by the IR.

But if that is the case, is it possible that belle is only called up for a couple days and somebody else who makes more money gets called up before the game?

I guess stats can be deceiving sometimes. Let's not forget he played most of the year with Weber who helped the plus rating a bit. I'm just saying that if he was the best dman in Hamilton why wasn't he the go to guy in offensive or defensive situations?

Usually I'd agree.

But this guy really is awful, unlike Henry he can skate... But that's pretty much it. Constantly out of position, no offensive upside... He just doesn't have it to keep up at this level IMO.

I mean, I'd be happy to be proven wrong and all, but I don't see it.

He's only 24 and a former first-rounder... it's not like the guy has zero potential.

Why do these boards have to overreact so much?

Maybe Gainey et Co. know more than the average joe around here? Very likely.

Maybe BG is getting Belle some NHL time to showcase him in possible deal involving Sergei?

I'm not sure why there is so much angst on this board about the Belle callup. Clearly, this is a guy being brought in as a #7 D (a spare part) who will probably play only very occasionally, while spending most nights in the pressbox, watching. He will be shipped out once O'Byrne returns to the lineup. The team simply didn't want Weber, carle, or Subban stuck in the pressbox...

Bergeron is the guy who will fit into the top-6 D during in Markov's absence...

very skilled, IMO just does not have the hockey sense to cut in the NHL. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise everyone...

No kidding! I was wondering when he'd get his chance and I actually think he'll surprise after a few games under his belt.

Congrats Shawn, good luck in the big league!

The guy is 6' 1" 240, he's a ****ing tank. He's mobile for his size and was a 1st round pick.

Let's see what he can do.
