Volchenkov's game revolves around shot blocking and physical play. Kronwall is not a shot blocker, but he's just as good if not better defensively and physically, is a far superior skater, and has more offensive skill in his right toe than Volchenkov has in his body. He would instantly be the best overall defenseman on almost any team in the league, especially Ottawa, who have a group of solid defensemen, but who are all pretty one-dimensional, being great in one zone and atrocious in the other. I would seriously consider trading Boyle for him, because Kronwall could be one of the best offensive defensemen in the game if he got any powerplay time in Detroit. He has no chance to produce offensively when two of the top 5 offensive defensemen in the league play on his team.
