he would be the perfect player for chicago to pick up.. completely

good goalie, moves the puck, ufa at the end of the season

if chicago ends up eating huets contract this season...

i would trade:

Skille, Alui and a pick at the deadline

That's terrible.

Dallas has no need for Mayers, and there is no reason to waste a 2nd to trade Turco.

Don't think he'll be traded regardless unless Dallas is playing the lottery.

If he was, think Detroit would be interested?

He's an upgrade over Osgood, and has a history in Michigan (NCAA record for most career wins, all with the Wolverines).

If Emery blows or Varlamov can't get a consistent game going, then maybe Caps or Philly might want him

Its yet to be determined whether hes an upgrade over Osgood. Ozzie never played as well as he did on Thursday at ANY point during the regular season last year.

As for Detroit being ineterested at the deadline, I think they would be. I did some number crunching, and if Franzen is out for 4 months (and his replacements are cheap), then Detroit will be able to add up to ~6M in prorated salary (2M non-prorated) around the deadline, so they would have the space.

IF the Wings have little faith in Howard at the deadline, and IF the Wings don't have any other pressing needs (scoring depth? shutdown Dman?), and IF the Wings don't want to go with Larsson as their back-up if Howard falters either this year or next, then I think you've got yourself a deal. Trading for a veteran goaltender whom they could re-sign to a "rebound contract" the next year to platoon with Osgood, and then take over for Osgood as the veteran net presence two years from now before Larsson and/or McCollum is ready is very Wings like.

Probably not the defenseman you want, but what are you thinking?

Turco would be an ok fit in Detroit, but the I doubt he'll fetch much of anything.

I think your right if the Hawks could catch Dallas sleeping enough to take Huet for Turco even if it mend giving up a 1st round pick to boot. Just to get rid of the contract would be worth it for the Hawks.

Before the trade deadline the Stars will only get offers to take on a bad contract.
Now at the trade deadline it will be different, but I wouldn't expect more then a 3rd rounder even then that's iffy. I expect his GAA to be above 3 and a save under .900%.

By sleeping I assume you mean you're hoping Nieuwendyk suffers a head injury right?

Turco’s $5+ million expiring contract is miles better than dealing with Huet’s contract. Marty Turco isn’t going to be a salary dump if they trade him. They have plenty of cap space this season, and unlike Huet, he’s off the books next season.

A 1st round pick, especially a late one, is not going to motivate Dallas to acquire Huet.

If Turco is traded, it will be like 90% of the other deals that happen at the deadline:

Veteran for pick(s) and/or young player

Turco is done-he was a guy who relied on athleticism to do a job which always made him streaky but now he is 35. Positionally he sucks although with the exception of maybe Brodeur set a standard in moving the puck. He has no value now nor would Dallas trade him. The likely result is they ride him out this season but if someone like a Detroit or a Eastern team would give you even a mid tier prospect or mid round pick at the deadline they could trade him if Auld is getting more time and/or Dallas is out of it.

BTW Auld looks like Pat Roy compared to Turco
