It would take AK SK 1st 1st plus Subban to get Kovalchuk (signed)

I would do it no problem

Wow. I wouldn't give up 1st round choices and players for an unsigned Kovalchuk UNLESS we were in a strong position to win this season.

A signed Kovalchuk while attractive would certainly cripple our cap total hampering our ability to sign several RFAs we have in the not too distant future like Price , Halak (arbitration eligible) and Laps (also arb elig)

I doubt Kovalchuk ever wears a Montreal Canadien jersey. We'd need to send to many pieces and don't really have good enough depth. Mr. Gainey isn't the one who makes the prospect power rankings on HF

He is UFA at the end of this season I thought.

So is Hammr. So, if we don't resign him, that frees up 5.5mil.

Get rid of Gorgeous George Laraque 1.5 & Metro 1mil.

We can afford it.

I should be GM

Hammer is UFA at the end of the 2010-2011 season.

You are correct. But can he still be GM?

Sorry, to me Phaneuf is a superstar Dman. A stud Dman isn't.
So maybe we had a different understanding of ''stud''. I'd take Phaneuf over him as well, likewise for Chara and others.

But I wouldn't take Doughty over Kovalchuk.

I didn't say I'm prepared to trade the world for him. I said I'd trade pretty much any of our players except Markov (and Price I add).

I was also insisting on the fact that Kovalchuk has a good chance of getting traded if he doesn't sign an extension before deadline and if Atlanta still is out of a POs spot. So there's a true possibility here.
Whereas, the chance a big named Dman like Phaneuf becomes available is quite small if none existant.

Stop putting Dion Phaneuf and superstar in the same sentence.

This is wrong.

For one, Kovalchuk is a better and more highly sought after player than Hossa. The acquiring team would receive one of the five best offensive players in the game. Additionally, said team would have negotiation rights and the possibility to lock the 26-year old sniper up long-term.

Kovalchuk's value, even as a prospective UFA, is immense.

Nice proposals guys, way to make Habs fans look intelligent.

Every team in the league would want Kovalchuk, I can't really think of many examples of players of his caliber being traded. One of the top 5 players in the entire league, no question.
