Gilroy has quietly played over 19 minutes a game to start his career. Does anyone see him get his offensive numbers in the next couple of weeks?

*Similar to the news about Matt Duchene, it is not surprising that Rangers head coach John Tortorella told me yesterday that 19 year-old defenseman Michael Del Zotto (3-5-8 in 8 games) is not returning to junior this year. In fact, Torts said it was never a question in his mind that Del Zotto would spend the whole season on Broadway.

*Funny moment yesterday when Larry Brooks of The New York Post jokingly said to Tortorella, "I guess this means you won't let Del Zotto play for Canada at the World Juniors?" Torts' response: "Uh,...no" Of course, Canada has bypassed Del Zotto each of the last two year's anyway...

Hope these kids don't end up alone in an apartment eating junk food & partying like
the Hab players last year.

Assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld told me, Andrew Gross and Dan Rosen of NHL.com after practice today not only that Michael Del Zotto would not be returned to juniors after tonight's game, but that he saw tremendous promise in him last October as an 18-year-old, when he was behind the bench in Ottawa for an exhibition game when then-coach Tom Renney was home dealing with a family illness.

As for a potential return to juniors, Schoenfeld said: "We don't decide, the players decide for you," Schoenfeld said. "There was really never a dropoff (in his play). Nobody's saying 82 points in 82 games. We just hope he'll continue to improve."

Not only has Del Zotto impressed with his vision, he is smart enough not to "go muscle to muscle" with bigger forwards coming into the zone, but has the positioning and strength to just chip them off the puck, Schoenfeld said.

Yeah I got the same feeling in the Ottawa game last year. You can really get an early feel as to what picks will boom and what will bust sometimes really early on.

Do you realize that next year we may be, um, too young?

We will get Sanger and Grachev (and maybe Byers or Weise) to replace vets. That's on top of the 4 rookies (DZ, Gilroy, Boyle and Anisimov) this year, and other youngsters like Staal, Girardi, Dubinsky, Callahan, Lisin.

Who'd have thunk that the Rangers could possibly be too young...

That's not the point. I am just so used to hearing "the Rangers are old, can barely move, look at that Flatley and Momesso crawling on the ice. LOL at Driver, Lowe and Lidster."

The London Knights were officially informed yesterday that defenceman Michael Del Zotto will be remaining with the National Hockey League's New York Rangers.

"I was talking to Gordie Clark of the Rangers and he told me that Del Zotto won't be coming back," Knights general manager Mark Hunter said.
Quote:
Hunter found out late last week that the Rangers had told Del Zotto to find a permanent place to live.

"It certainly isn't a shock," Hunter said. "The way he's played, we expected he would be there. He deserves to be there."

Boyle is not a rookie.

Girardi, Staal, Dubinsky, Callahan will have been in the league 3+ years.

No we will not be too young.

Lundqvist, Gaborik, Redden, Kotalik, Avery, and Drury are pretty much guaranteed to be here next year.

How the hell does Boyle get lumped in with those other three?

Am I the only one completely unimpressed by Boyle?

Maybe if he threw a damn hard check once in a while, I could appreciate him more.

Does anyone realize that Michael Del Zotto is leading the league in points and is playing 8-10 minutes less than every other defenseman within the Top 30 defensive point leaders?

That's just amazing.

Probably says that it will be hard for him to keep it up if his minutes stay the same.

4th youngest D in the league

the only issue I have is with how other teams are taking runs at Henke

other than that, its been a very nice surprise this season

with Girardi rounding into shape, the team looks very good right now. Especially the blueline

Boyle has been functional on the PK and his limited playing time on the 4th line

would be great to see Byers and eventually Sangs join the club, but for him to join there would either have to be a deal or an injury

Artem is still finding his game, but I like the way he plays. He is often able to get back on the play and back check which is a good sign for a younger player.

Since you're already on the subject...

Quote:
Lisin, who has two goals in the last two games, said he prefers to be on the ice every day. "I'm used to it," said Lisin, who grew up in Moscow. "When I was little, we would be outdoors playing or watching from like 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.," he said. Instead, he used the day to sign a lease for an apartment in White Plains.

If someone here predicted that DZ will get 9 points in the 9 games when the decision had to be made, he'd have been driven out of this forum.

Slow news day(s). With the year to year changes in roster, I'd probably stay in a hotel for a while.

I guess its a nice statement by the club in theory.
