Mathieu Dandenault headed to Hartford

Looks like he might be the 7th defensemen the Rangers were looking for.

Grabbed this from the Hab's forum.

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/284573.html

Quote:
Mathieu Dandenault had found a job. Selon ce que RDS a appris, il s'est entendu avec le club-école des Rangers de New York, les Wolfpack de Hartford pour un essai de 25 matchs. According to RDS has learned that he agreed with the AHL club Rangers in New York, the Hartford Wolfpack for a test of 25 games.

Il demeure toutefois joueur autonome sans compensation et peut quitter pour une autre organisation si une autre équipe lui fait de l'oeil. He remains an unrestricted free agent and can leave for another organization if another team makes eye.

Il occupera le poste de défenseur et sera de l'entraînement mercredi. He held the position of defender and will practice Wednesday.

Just put him in the lineup on Thursday. I'm sure he'll be more competent than Blozsival.

I like it. He's a former winger, converted to defensemen. He's won three cups before the Red Wings. He has a little size (6'1 and 200) and obviously has is a vet in the league.

Word is that the 33-year-old swingman has a tryout deal with Hartford. Dandenault played 13 years with the Red Wings and Canadiens (4-8-12 in 41 games in Montreal last year). He's 6-1, 210 and didn't make the Sharks on a training camp tryout.

If he plays well enough there, he could be an inexpensive option in New York down the road.

I like it. Veteran. Has won 3 Cups. Not that old. Will be cheap. Worth a look definitely.

Interesting.

How physical is he? I know he isn't afraid to drop the gloves, but i mean how physical is he.

Will he knock the crap out of someone who runs Lundqvist?

He isnt overly physical but he is a good skater. He will get in on the forecheck and work hard and will drop the gloves if need be but I wouldn't say he is much better at it than Voros.

Good skater.Scotty Bowman converted him from the wing to defense. Not very physical. Not an offensive player. Good positional player. He will play the opposing player's stick than play the body.

good skater, not old. Good 7th Dman and Spare F aswell

I think it makes sense to have Dandenault serve as the only spare on the team, it will save on the cap

Thumbs up to this move. Hope he does'nt suck in Hartford, lol

So... is he coming in here as a Defenseman?

Or is he coming in here as a forward?

Or both????

And regarding Voros, and i can't believe i am saying this.... i would prefer to keep him around. But only because i think Brashear is in serious decline. And Voros is more effective then Brashear.

That said.

Looks like Dandenault is better then both of them.

Can we just put Brashear through waivers?

haha the Donald is going no where. Get used to him for 2 yrs. Also please don't say Voros can take his minutes cause he is not a heavyweight what so ever

Dandenault is good depth. I hope he makes it up to the big club as a spare

Brashear hasn't won a fight this season, that i can recall.

And more and more guys are not afraid to throw their weight into him.

I am not convinced Brashear is anywhere near as effective as he was a few years ago.

Who is afraid of Brashear?

I would love to be wrong about that.

Sounds like Paul Mara part 2. Which isn't bad as a 7th guy.

@ $1.4M, what's the point?

I'd have to assume that Dandenault knows the cap situation and that he shouldn't expect for the Rangers to waive anyone to bring him on. He's also an out of work UFA, so it's hard to envision a $1M+ offer coming his way from anyone.

It has nothing to do with money.

It has to do with, is Brahsear a shell of his former self.

i duno whether to laugh or cry at the fact that the defensive "situation" is such that this doesnt seem like a terrible idea...it should, but it doesnt.
If he shows he can still bring any semblance of a physical game i say give him a shot pronto, if i see one more stick check im going to shatter every tv in my house.
