At some point in the game is the PA announcer going to say, "...and we'd like to welcome all the unemployed people sitting in section 101" ?
Actually, this isn't the only way I've seen the Griffs give away tickets at little or no cost. If you attend a Wednesday night game during the season and the Griffins win, you can redeem your ticket stub at the team store for a free ticket to the next Wednesday game they have. For each of the last two seasons, I bought a $5 upper bowl ticket, which isn't a bad seat, and the Griffins kept on winning each time I went. I saw probably about half a dozen Griffins games in each of the last two seasons on a $5 bill. With this being a Sunday game, I wouldn't be surprised if they pull that promotion for this game too.
So, the more fearful question that it leads me to ask is "Ok, I know we're a pretty solid market in the league and each year we average in the Top 3 or 4 in attendance, but with promotions like these where you're literally giving away tickets, are you simply just trying to put butts in the seats or is the team having some problems?"
With our NHL affiliate being the freakin' Detroit Red Wings, I would think we'd be one of the last AHL teams having problems. And trust me...if the Griffs were having problems, the local media would've picked up on that fact a LOOOOOOONG time ago.
