1: That's only a rumor
2: That's to stay with Atlanta. Never know, he might pull a Hossa. What if he took a 6M cap hit to play in San Jose FOREVER?

Well, since the coaching staff (who, presumably watch him play a lot more than you and I do) have given him more ice time than any other Canucks dman this year (last season, too, for that matter), I think we can safely label him a top-pairing guy, never mind top-4 guy.

Kovalchuk

TO ATL:
Hodgson
Bieksa

In order for this to make sense from Vancouver's perspective, a deal would have to be pre-arranged with Kovalchuk before the deal was finalized.

Vancouver would indeed fit under the cap, as it is questionable whether Demitra will even return at all.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Kovalchuk-Kesler-Samuelsson
Raymond-Wellwood-Bernier
Rypien-Johnson-Hansen
Hordichuk, Bolduc

Salo-Mitchell
Edler-Ehrhoff
Schneider-O'Brien
Rome

Luongo
Raycroft

TOTAL: 56.888 (We won't havy Kovy for the full season, his cap hit will be a fraction of this as he will likely replace Grabner)

What do you guys think? Atl?

If I am Don Waddell and Kovalchuk has made it clear he will not re-sign, I make this deal. The big UNLESS would be is Boston has a better package including Toronto's first.

Kovy should only really be considered by teams that need one last player to get them over the hump. He likely will not be able to re-sign with many of the teams that wish to acquire him based on salary. Atlanta has a lot to prove, but I am cautiously optimistic that he will re-sign. I think the decision has to be made by December. The team will get maximum value on deadline day, but seriously needs to push for playoffs this year for the shriveled fan base. There has to be a definitive answer to create stability.

I stopped reading after I saw you have one of the purest scorers in the entire NHL on the 2nd line. I don't care if you had Gaborik ahead of him, that is just plain wrong.

Sorry, but there are going to be other teams out there that are going to offer a whole lot more that Atlanta will want to help make up for what they lose. Currently, Boston is going to be in the greatest place to do that....especially if Atlanta is going to the Playoffs. What about teams like Washington or even Pittsburgh?? If they do a bandaid fix for the playoffs, they could make an offer that cannot be refused.
