Continual trade thread...Rick Martin to Andrej Sekera

take a gander at this... and does your favorite team have an historical trade thread that has gone on as long as this???

RICK MARTIN TRADE

1. Rick Martin - Buffalo Sabres 1971-1981...traded to Los Angeles for two draft picks (eventually Tom Barrasso and Colin Chisholm).

2. Tom Barrasso - Sabres 1983-88...traded to Pittsburgh for Doug Bodger and Darrin Shannon.

3. Doug Bodger - Sabres 1988-95...traded to the San Jose Sharks for Vaclav Varada, Martin Spanhel and a 1st round pick.

4. 1st round pick is sent to Winnipeg for Darryl Shannon and Michal Grosek.

4. Vaclav Varada - Sabres 1995-2003...traded to Ottawa for Jakub Klepis.

5. Michal Grosek - Sabres 1995-2000 is traded to Chicago for J.P. Dumont and Doug Gilmour.

J.P. Dumont eventually leaves via free agency.

5. Jakub Klepis - Sabres 2003-04 traded to Washington for The Almighty Grier.

3. Darrin Shannon - goes to Winnipeg in 1991 as part of a package for Gord Donnelly, Dave McIlwain and Yuri Khmylev.

4. Gord Donnelly is traded to Dallas for James Black and Steve Webb.

4. Dave McIlwain is traded as part of a package to the Islanders for Pat LaFontaine, Randy Wood and Randy Hillier.

5. Pat LaFontaine is traded to the Rangers for a draft pick, the awesome Andrew Peters.

4. Yuri Khmylev heads to St. Louis for Jean Luc Grand-Pierre, (draft picks) Max Afinogenov and Cory Sarich.

Sarich goes to Tampa Bay in 2000 for Chris Gratton.

Gratton is traded to Phoenix in 2003 for Daniel Briere and a 3rd round pick (Andrej Sekera).

Sekera is the only one that remains from this huge trade thread.

As mentioned, this one has been discussed before. But you've provided an excellent example.

IIRC, the Barry Pederson draft pick by the Bruins in (I think) 1979 is still paying off for them. They got some good years out of Pederson, he led to Neely and a 1st (Wesley). They got several great seasons out of both. Wesley was traded for 3 firsts including Samsonov and McLaren. In one way or another those two picks led to Milan Lucic, IIRC.

Also, I love the value the Leafs got out of the Damphousse pick. Damphousse was traded to get Fuhr, who was traded to get a 1st rounder that became Jonsson, Jonsson was traded to get Schneider, who was traded to get Karpovtsev, who was traded to get McCabe, who was traded to get Van Ryn, who is still alive and kicking. I think the tree stops there though.

I figured out one that began to grow rapidly when the Lightning traded Boyle and Lukowich. I fear it'll grow larger before I finish typing.

Boyle trade (As it pertains to the Lightning)

---In the beginning...
Jan 7, 2002
TB trades 2003 fifth (Martin Tuma) to FLA for Dan Boyle

July 3, 2007
Brad Lukowich rejoins the Lighting as a UFA. Having previously played elsewhere in the league.

---The Trade

July 4, 2008
TB: Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich...traded to SJ for Matt Carle, Ty Wishart, 09' first (Kyle Palmieri) & 10' fourth.

Oct 28, 2008
TB: 09' first (Palmieri), Alex R. Picard, and Filip Kuba...traded to OTT for Andrej Meszaros

Nov 7, 2008
TB: Matt Carle and 09' third (Simon Bertilsson)....traded to PHI for Steve Eminger, Steve Downie & 09' fourth (Alex Hutchings)

Mar 4, 2009
TB: Steve Eminger....traded to Florida for Noah Welch & 09' third (Andrej Nestrasil)

Meanwhile Kyle Palmieiri deserves his own tree. That pick went around the block a bit more before draft day.
