Morrison and the Blades ended up winning 5-1. Hopefully Morrison develops into the top goalie prospect we've been looking for for years. It would be nice if DeSerres turns his career around with the move to Brandon, but if he continues to struggle, at least it looks like we have another decent goalie prospect in the WHL, picked in the 3rd round by the Flyers, in Morrison.

Currently Morrison has the second best save % and second best gaa in the WHL.

After Saskatoon's win against Calgary Saturday night Blades GM and Head Coach Lorne Molleken said Morrison kept Saskatoon in the game in the first period until the team got their legs underneath them.

Isn't that all you can ask of a goalie? Keep the team in the game, until we get our game going, perhaps steal a couple.

Morrison isn't flashy, he is solid though. He has some work to do, and is a solid prospect. Morrison hasn't shown he can steal a game, or win one outright on his own, it will be interesting to see how he develops through the season.

For some reason Bertilsson is on the B squad for the U20 team Sweden. Some people dont understand why.

"A" Team Defense
2 D SEL - Kilström, Lukas - Age 19 : undrafted
3 D SEL - Ekman Larsson, Oliver - Age 17 : PHX 2009 1st (#6)
5 D SEL - Larsson, Adam - Age 16 : undrafted
6 D SEL - Erixon, Tim - Age 18 : CGY 2009 1st (#23)
7 D SEL - Rundblad, David - Age 18 : STL 2009 1st (#17)
14 D AllSv - Ekholm, Mattias - Age 19 : NSH 2009 4th (#102)
26 D WHL - Urbom, Alexander - Age 18 : NJD 2009 3rd (#73)

"B" Team Defense
2 D SEL - Löf, Simon - Age 18 : undrafted
3 D SEL - Bertilsson, Simon - Age 18 : PHI 2009 3rd (#87)
4 D Sjr - Fantenberg, Oscar - Age 18 : undrafted
5 D AllSv - Tömmernes, Henrik - Age 19 : undrafted
6 D AllSv - Olsson, Filip - Age 18 : undrafted
8 D SEL - Styrman, Fredrik - Age 18 : undrafted
19 D SEL - Andersson, Peter - Age 18 : VAN 2009 5th (#143)

I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of these are judgment calls by the staff.

A chunk of the guys on the guys on the "A" team (OEL, Rundblad, Erixson, Larsson) are in fact better than Bertilsson. The rest are debatable. On top of that there are things like team needs to consider, for instance, does someone offer something Bertilsson lacks while the team having Bertilsson may be redundant?

None of this means he isn't good or that he hasn't been performing well in the SEL.

Did he deserve the "A" team? I think so, but that's not my call.

I watched him play, he registered 31 saves (though I didn't seem like it). He seemed pretty solid, made a few good saves... nothing incredible stood out but hopefully he has a good year.

Yeah, I'd say solid not spectacular. BU's offense isn't nearly what it was, but at the same time, he had to face 2 breakaways from Connolly and Trivino (2 of BU's 3 best offensive guys) and did well to put both of them off just enough. The Connolly one was especially important because UND went right down to the other side and scored.

I'd say he still needs to work on his rebound control (what young goalie doesn't?), but he did pretty well considering what he faced.

He's also definitely grown a lot, I remember when he was drafted, he was supposed to be tiny, but he's definitely filled out, I'd say he's average sized in the net.

The way his pads were painted with the blue stripe down the side made his legs look tiny!

I've been wondering if all that talk for the last year+ about him being somewhere near to competing in the NHL is at all true.

He certainly doesn't seem to be doing himself any favors since getting traded.

More proof that people around here shouldn't buy into the hype without watching people play first hand. I never was willing to list Bodrov as one of our top prospects because we've all seen this before

A lot of the hype came from Holmgren's own comments which, at the time, seemed to come completely out of left field. Nobody was really paying attention to Bodrov until he started making comments about Bodrov possibly being ready to jump to the NHL level in the near future.

At the time all this started Bodrov was performing well with Tolyatti Lada. Then of course there were locker room issues leading to his trade. Now he is way down on Mytishchi Atlant's depth chart. Granted they're better than Lada, but there's some other issues with Bodrov's game.

Who knows where this could all end...with the Flyers' deep pool of defensive prospects (hell we couldn't even fit them all before the Ratchuk trade) it's looking more and more less likely that we continue to pursue Bodrov so hard, if we haven't stopped already that is.

Anyway, 2009 depth analysis (used to be called the System Audit):

HF depth chart also updated.

Tonight's game was another great game by Bertilsson except for that he got a game misconduct for a kneeing with 4 minutes remaining.

Saskatoon is currently down 3-0 in the middle of the first, Morrison is in net.

Hostetter had an assist in a 3-2 Erie win.

Rinaldo was held pointless in a London win.

Wellwood had a goal in what is soon to be an 8-4 Windsor win. Hall and Timmins both had hat tricks.

Labrecque has a goal and an assist in what will soon be a 6-3 Shawinigan win.

Morrison had a tough game. Let in 6 goals.. GAA is now at 2.50 and SV% .912

I watch a large amount of CHL games so I thought I'd update on a few of the guys we have in the system.

My take on them so far in the season is that Rinaldo seems to be growing up a little bit and still hits like a train. The problem is that now he's nailing guys 3 years younger than him so it isn't as impressive as it once was. Morisson in the games I've seem him has been outstanding. Looking at his stats he's had some off games but the ones I saw him in he looked like our best goal prospect in a lot of years. Wellwood is a punk. He needs some serious maturation. His work ethic on the ice is good, but his attitude blows. Labreque is a great 2 way player. Very Pyorola like. Whether that will translate into higher up leagues I don't know but for how far down he was in the draft I like him.

The Flyers system update gives you a full list/explanation on all of them.

Yes, he's still the Flyers' property.

This is from Alessandro's link:

Quote:
The other player we saw, Andrei Popov (Philadelphia Flyers), played in the second line with Canadians Ramzi Abid and Pierre Dageneis. This line is without a true center and thus he needed to stood up in some cases in the faceoff dots, where he acted well with a 57.1% of success. He’s grown a lot in the last period. He likes playing the puck, but he rarely exaggerates and playing as center gave him a further gear in defensive play, in which he doesn’t excel, but has become more reliable. He also played on the PK units and he was on ice during the last two PP goals by the opponents. If in the OT goal he could have done little (his team was on a 3-on-4) he might have checked harder the opponents in the slot in occasion of last minute Niko Kapanen’s goal. Overall, he logged a total 19:04 TOI and looked very well, despite the zero in the scoresheet. During this season he has already amassed 14 points in 19 games.
Basically Popov seems to really be coming around. I mentioned in the system audit that if he continues turning heads the Flyers could get interested in him a little more. He is still their property.

In 54 KHL games played last season:
4 G - 5 A - 9 P

In 17 KHL games played this season:
9 G - 5 A - 14 P

It's another forward for the Flyers to look into, especially if he really is breaking out big-time in Russia.

Ahh ok. I was just wondering cause I though I remember something about his rights or something during the summer. I have a feeling though that he would stay over there. It would be nice if he broke out though and came over here

Well on our Russian radar Popov and Bodrov may be doing complete 180's through the course of this season. Popov has to keep up his game though. This might just be a flash in the pan, but 17 games is a long time to hold down that kind of pace unless you have all the ability to continue it.
