Marc Savard?

What do you guys think about either trading for Savard at the deadline, or going after him if Kovy isn't available? If we get him at the deadline for say, Higgins+ Prospects/picks I think our top 9 looks pretty good.

Prospal-Savard-Gaborik
Avery-Dubinsky-Callahan
Lisin-Anisimov-Drury
I don't think he'll want more than 6.5, (assuming we trade for him, this is NOT assuming UFA) which is a bargain considering what we are paying Drury, Redden, were paying Gomez.etc

Thoughts?

Depends on the cost obviously.

And I wouldn't want him around for longer then the rest of the year and the playoffs. He'll likely want a long term deal and the Rangers can't even come close to paying off another one of those with Drury, Redden, Rozsival, Gaborik, and Lundqvist all going to be on the books past this season, and Staal due for a new contract.

Savard will not be available........Bruins will resign him

Frolov for Higgins and Lisin makes some sense

It's likely stil too early for a deal though

I'm down. I'd be more than willing to give him a long-term deal IF we can dump Rozy.

Higgins, 2nd, and Byers for Savard and and Alexander Fallstrom at deadline.

And Rozsival, 5th rounder to Columbus for 4th rounder and Stralman?

Callahan-Savard-Gaborik
Avery-Dubinsky-Drury
Lisin-Anisimov-Kotalik
Brashear-Boyle-Voros

Staal-Girardi
Redden-Gilroy
Del Zotto-Stralman

It will really depend on the cost, and I think it will be too high if Boston is trying to make a push for the cup this year.

I don't see boston trading him to us. Would take a severe overpayment to get it done.

The only way it happens is if they are not in the playoff race at all come the deadline.

A deal for Savard would probably look something like Dubinsky, Anisimov/Grachev, 1st.

In other words, it's not happening.

Not a chance this will happen. The B's will NOT lose Savard. If we did actually try, we would need to start with Callahan, Anisimov and a 1st.

Which would hurt us more than it would help us.

I say you look elsewhere, I'm sure they'll be others available.

Exactly. It is not worth giving up pieces of our young core for a player we might lose at the end of the season.

And as I just stated in another thread...Sather wont do that. Its the one thing he's been very good with.

I don't see the Bruins letting go of Savard, but I could see them make a move with Bergeron.

That being said, if Dubinsky can't prove that he's a capable #1 center, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sather take a shot at Olli Jokinen if he makes it to free agency.

Not gonna happen.

And I hope to GOD I never have to see Olli Jokinen in a Rangers' jersey.

I kinda hope he doesn't, Jokinen feels like a mistake. He's damn inconsistent.

I would be happy to get a player like Savard but in all honesty, I see Sather going for an UFA like Marleau just because of his speed and overall game. I am sure many will not like it but I think he is part of the plan for next season if he makes it to UFA.

If we are going to poach a center from Boston, it better be Bergeron. Savard is already 33 and we can't afford to give him over six million a year when he is 38 if he's looking for a longterm contract. He'd be a good 1 or 2 year rental player, but for what it would take to get him here it isn't worth it.

Bergeron meanwhile, is starting to return to form after his concussion, is stuck behind Savard and Krejci, and has a pretty large contract that could prevent Boston from re-signing Savard and Wheeler. He seems like the player that Boston would be looking to deal. Boston can't take on much money, so maybe something like Higgins, Werek, and a first/second would be good for both teams.

Prospal-Bergeron-Gaborik
Grachev-Dubinsky-Callahan
Avery-Anisimov-Drury
Brashear-Boyle-Lisin

Pretty impressive.

I mean I guess if your talking Grachev and a couple of 1sts...

Could Higgins stock be any lower than right now? Yea I guess when he's a free agent and can just walk...although that might be a positive for the lucky team holding that contract....

Amazing how people continue to underrate Savard.

Wow, I always do that.

I guess next offseason Sather has to choose between Prospal and Kotalik, unless Drury or Avery are moved, or if Grachev isn't ready.

I dunno about Sarvard........What's going on with Jason Arnott these days? Nasville suks right now, would he be available? He brings size & toughness that we could use up front.
