You should never wear the C again if this is how you play without it.

AND he's trying to make team canada... so what is it?

Team Canada?
No C?
Contract year?
1st in 3 years not starting with pain?

I'm hoping its mostly option 2.

I'm hoping it's:

He is awesome.

Why's there have to be another reason? He's always been a great player. Now he's just really putting it all together with the right players around him.

He wants to stay here, so he's definitely taking a discount

Patty is one of the guys that wants to prove the naysayers wrong. You just seem to get that vibe from him this year.

That's the problem, what is a discount?

With how he's playing now, 6M might be considered a discount.

Putting him 3 to Cammalleri is ridiculous. He should've been 2nd but oh well.

As for his contract, you can reduce his cap hit if you sign him to a long-term deal and still pay him close to market value now if you wanted to. You can throw out a 7 year, 35 million dollar contract and spread it out like 7, 6, 5.5, 5, 4.5, 4, and 3. That's a 5 mil cap hit. I'd prefer the team to back-load the deal if they're giving him a very long term.

DW has said the org does not do those deals. I doubt that will change even if DW were gone. Seems like an org financial decision. But one can dream I guess.

They could back-load it if they want. They've done that before...slightly. They're smart for not front-loading it because it pretty much takes away an emergency option for no good reason to them.

Marleau will be interviewed on Versus post-game (Hawks-Wild) show. Probably 7:30pm Pacific or so. Possibly archived at Versus.com later, but no info.

Expected questions: "Has the removal of the 'C' affected your game positively?" and "What do you think is different about this year's Sharks team?"

Expected answers: "Uh, yeah, sure" and "Well, we're working harder and we're gonna keep it up."
