I'm looking over Ouellet's stats. He seems to be a pretty sharp goal-scorer. 12-8-20 as I am typing this now. Had some good numbers in the Q (two 90+ pts seasons). He is 22 now... whats his future in the NHL? Does he have a spot on the Penguins roster if the strike is over? Is he a prospect worth tracking for a deep keeper league? Thanks for all responses.
MO is a complete hit or miss prospect. He seems the type that needs to be on the top 2 lines to be successful, but his skating may not allow that at the NHL level. Others with below average skating such as Luc R., etc have made it, but MO has a poor first step.
He's an interesting prospect. I was never impressed by him in past training camps and on his numbers in the Q, but the last two years he's come out of nowhere. Perhaps most impressive is that, under Coach Brophy and then Coach Therrien, Ouellet's game has rounded out by leaps and bounds. He plays physical, he competes, he's now solid defensively. These were HUGE question marks when drafted.
One thing that's for sure is he can flat out finish. The numbers over the last two years speak for themselves. He's also probably the team's top shoot out weapon. He's a guaranteed goal. He doesn't really have a scoring forte. He's a bit of a sniper, but doesn't mind scoring a garbage goal either.
If anything holds him back, it'll be his skating. It's not that great. He's worked on it, but he still has no top end speed to speak of.
That was a great post by Jac. Ouellet just kind of came out of blue and started filling the net. It shows what a player can do when they work on some flaws. I can deal with his skating because he seems to have a sense of getting open and hustles into open areas.
How deep are we talking? I think the others have done a good job summarizing Ouellet as a player, here are my thoughts as a fantasy hockey decision.
I'd say he's worth a spot if you have a spot where you can stow away a potential sleeper for another year or two at least. I guess it depends on how big your keeper league is. If it's fairly in depth, Ouellet is a good player to take a chance on and kind of stash away for a little bit.
