Kings @ Sharks 10/28

Thanks Terry Murray.

Nice game by Frolov! (Assumption because he had a goal and is the 3rd star)

To be honest I really did not see much of the game so someone else take it over....

The good thing now is that we now head to Vancouver to face Andrew Raycroft..Not Roberto Luongo!

Quote:
SAN JOSE -- In an unlikely battle for first place in the Pacific Division, San Jose got a goal from Ryan Clowe in the sixth round of the shootout and beat the Kings 2-1 on Wednesday night before 17,562 at HP Pavilion.

Alexander Frolov gave the Kings the lead with a second-period goal, and Patrick Marleau tied it for the Sharks in the second. That was it, as a tense game ended in a shootout.

Michal Handzus scored in the first round of the shootout, and Dany Heatley tied it in the third round. Both goalies stopped everything until the sixth round, when Clowe scored on a backhand shot and Jarret Stoll got stopped.

In a tight game, the Kings took the lead after a scoreless first period.

Drew Doughty dumped the puck down low from the left boards to Frolov, who took on Dan Boyle behind the net and scored on a nice sweeping wraparound exactly eight minutes into the second period. Dustin Brown also got an assist.

Marleau evened the game with 5:28 remaining in the second period. Marleau carried the puck into the Kings' zone and then, with a skating burst, went past defenseman Matt Greene.

Marleau's high slap shot cleanly beat Kings goalie Jonathan Quick to tie the game. Marleau now has 25 goals and 58 points in 67 career games against the Kings.
The Kings, winners of four consecutive games, started Quick in goal against the Evgeni Nabokov and the Sharks, who were coming off a strong 4-2 road trip.

Both goalies held up well in the first period, although Nabokov faced significantly more pressure as the Kings outshot the Sharks 13-5. Fortunes reversed in the second period, as the Sharks outshot the Kings 14-6.

Don't really care about the SO loss....getting the point in their barn was good.

But please....three Kings completely missing the net in the shootout? Kinda silly...

I'm glad we got at least a point but we should have had the 2nd one too.

It's a weird feeling as a Kings fan to expect them to have a chance to win every game.

Quick was a rock tonight.

Johnson is becoming a defensive beast but I still want him to get more opportunities offensively from the staff.

Doughty and Scuds both had very good games.

Frolov was our best forward this game. A lot of the guys up front had quiet games.

I guess Frolov was going to shoot 16th...right before OD and Scuderi.

Honestly, right when I feel like Murray might be getting it he pulls something like this.

Then I remember the only reason the Williams was taken off the PP and Frolov-Handzus-Brown were put together was because of injury, I realize what a terrible coach he still is.

Oh well...on to tomorrow.

To say that Terry Murray's choice of SO shooters decided the game is retarded. You might not agree with his choices, but to say that shows not knowing basic SO scoring probabilities. Even if Frolov would have been the SO scorer in the league, it would still mean around 5% higher chance to win. And Frolov is not one of the best SO scorers.

So please stop with this OMFGZ - TM and a pick crap. Thanks.

That was a good close game!
I thought Handzus on the shootout was the head scratcher, but go figure he scored.
I was waiting for Fro on the shootout, but at least the Kings got a point. I remember last season that TM seemed to pick the shootout people based on how they were doing in practices, and there was always some different ones. Not sure about that theory all the time.
It is nice to have raised expectations of the team this year!

Well, credit the Sharks. The Kings didn't give it away, but they could have had it. Quick gave them every chance. Good game. Very grinding 3rd period.

Nabby won that game all the way with his huge first period. If he is even just good in that 1st, Kings go into the dressing room with a 2 or 3 goal lead. But, the reverse happened in the second.

I know Murray has called out Frolov's poor shootout record (counting breakways) before, but not using him in a game where he is clearly hungry is silly.

Since you can't one-time the puck in the SO, Stoll should be a last resort.

Starting to feel bad for Frolov, and if he leaves this team in the off-season, I honestly wouldn't blame him.

I'm pretty sure that Jamie Kompon is the one that actually chooses the shooters...

Nabokov really kept the Sharks in this game. He was great in the 1st period as the Kings were all over them but he held his team in it until the Sharks regrouped and started to carry the play.

If probabilities determined the games they wouldn't need to be played. You go with the hot hand in the SO. Disagreeing with the coach is one thing, not having one of your top 3 goal scorers shoot in the shootout IS retarded.

The things is that Frolov scored tonight on Nabokov. I would think Frolov would know where to go. Who knows how it would have been if Frolov were to be there. But I am mad about putting Stoll in there. He really does not seem to me that skillful guy who would score nice and clean goals like in the shootout. When I see him I think of trash goals or rockets from the point. You know the Grinding type of play or the Power Forward type but not much of a dangler or anything. Overall, GREAT GAME BY THE KINGS!

Elaborate the SHOULD HAVE part, please. Why? You mean before the SO? Sharks had some damn good chances, so maybe THEY should have said "We should have won it before SO?" No? You mean because Kings are such a superior team in SO and Nabokov is so bad? What would you say is the probability of Kings winning SO against Sharks? 90%? 80% If you think it is around 50%, where does this "should have won" come from?

I think we are all just too emotional after a loss and we can't think rationally until tomorrow. Take it easy guys, it was a good match and in the end Sharks were a bit luckier. It happens.

Have any of you seen Frolov on a break away? He is horrible. Not sure why everyone is upset about him not being given the shot.
