Kings Claim Randy Jones on Re-Entry Waivers

Per NHL Live just now...

I've had Lombardi interested in Jones since the Summer. Once Jones was put on re-entry waivers, I was pretty sure DL would snatch him.

Good move in my opinion. LA is only on hook for half the salary and he is a better d-man than Harrold.

Hey, can't argue with that kind of value.

Yeah, just heard it on NHL Live. They said they were looking for another veteran defenseman and you can't argue with the value they are getting here. First thing Hradek pointed out is the connections Dean has with the Flyers It is a good claim though.

How does the waiver claims priority thing work again. I know it's based on your record, but at what point do they start using your current record for waiver priority? Or do they simply use the previous season standings for your waiver priority for the entire season?

November 1, which pretty much guarantees that Holmgren had recently talked to Lombardi and Lombardi promised him he'd make a claim for Jones to keep him out of the division. In a few days, the Kings will be one of the last teams able to make claims on quality players that are put on waivers but god is that a welcomed sight.

Hey kids,

If you don't know much about Jones, he's been the whipping boy of Flyers' fans over the last few seasons, even more so after Holmgren signed him to a ridiculous contract to avoid arbitration.

He's a decent bottom pairing defenseman, but he's had hip problems for the better part of the last year. If he has sufficiently recovered he should fit well into your line-up; his value is fair at $1.375M.

Jones sucks. He is one of the most hated players other then Sidney Crosby over on the Flyers boards.

IDK why we didn't just leave him to rot in the AHL. Now the Flyers have $1.37 mill in dead cap space because our GM is an idiot. Jones has the worst +/- on the phantoms and no points from what I heard.

Here's to hoping he isn't as bad with you guys. I have a few teams I pull for a bit, and LA is one of them.

Hopefully he plays in Manchester if he's that bad.

Until November 1st, waiver priority is based on last season's standings.

He's cheap. He's a vet. Can he play the point on the power play?

I don't think he can be sent down.

I don't see him playing unless there is an injury or somebody's game slides/O'Donnell needs a breather.

Either way, he's better than Harrold and Martinez: at least at this point regarding Martinez.

Gauthier was banished to the AHL by the same organization and he was "serviceable" last season. Same idea with Jones.

Yes you did. I knew I'd heard that name before. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=20665301

Good call!

It's impressive how many times the Kings will make a move and sure enough - someone who posts on this forum has discussed it in the past. We've got some smart cookies posting here!

You can knock Harrold all you want but how many games has Harrold actually started on defense?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad acquisition but I just have to wonder who's going to sit? Drewiske? OD? I suppose they can rotate amongst 3 or 4 dmen.

LoL, Jones will sit until somebody gets injured. Harrold, Drewiske, & O'D are playing fine.

I like Harrold on the 4th line anyway. I have the Sharks' feed on DVR, and they were praising them all night long, saying Mclellan needed to stay away from trying to match our 4th line with his 4th line.

Right...DL just forked over 1.37 mil so Jonesy could get comfortable being a healthy scratch until 2 of the kings dmen go down with injury.
