If Carkner plays tonight look for some fire works early as the Lightning will be looking for some revenge for the Downie beating last week. Should be an interesting game tonight. Any word on who has the flu and might be scratched tonight. It better not be Carkner or Neil.

Obviously it's not Carkner, because he plays defense.

I doubt Neil is scratched. I bet it's Cheechoo tonight.

That's probably who should be scratched, but I imagine the flu will ultimately decide who plays...

Carkner probably won't be allowed to fight tonight anyway - he's on the top pairing now.

He better fight Fedoruk or Walker after going after one of the smallest players on Tampa. I don't care about who he is paired with. If Fedoruk or Walker come calling he better be willing to go. You don't go running around beating up 5'11 190lb guys and duck the real fighters in the league.

Need this one to keep pace with the sabres.

As if Volchenkov goes down right when Kuba gets back. Note to murray we need another top 3 guy.

I hope Clouston has talked to him about that. I get that fighting is part of his skill set, but playing with 5 defensemen is a terrible situation for a team to be in.

It screws but the defensive pairings and tires out the other 5 defensemen. That's probably part of the reason why we were really shaky in the final few minutes of the last two games. The other defensemen just run out of gas.

The only time Carkner should fight is if all these things happen:
  • He is on the ice
  • Neil is not on the ice
  • One of our stars (Spezza, Alfie, Kovelev) or our goaltender is cheapshotted by an opposing player
  • We aren't in a tight game in which we have the momentum

If even one of those situations is not true, the guy shouldn't be fighting.

Carkner fights when he needs to. It's not his #1 priority.

I'm dreading Carkner on the top pairing tonight. How the heck is he going to catch St.Louis?

Lee should have been given the oportunity to play with Phillips on the top pair...

Lee hasn't even proven that he should be in the NHL. When he proves that he's not a liability on a bottom pairing, then he should get a chance.

He's more than proven that.

You are sassy, just like a jungle cat!

You were asking who was scratched or had the flu. I just responded to scratched, I thought if someone had the flu we'd know about it.

He was really good at the end of the 2008 season, and he was more then adequate at the end of last season as well.

you realize you're talking about steve downie, right?

if chris neil did the type of **** downie does when he was a rookie, i'd have expected NHL enforcers to kick the crap out of him too.

its in the video recap of the panthers game in the first post, if you want to see the play.

Basically kreps was on a breakaway, volchenkov tracked him down, and after elliott made the save they all ran into the net. Kreps fell on volchenkov's arm, and volchenkov stayed down, obviously hurt.

You don't pull the **** Downie pulled and not expect retribution somewhere down the line. It's not over, it's going to follow him his entire career.

Downie has a history with this team. He's going to have to keep his head up every single time he plays us.

Besides, Downie threw the first punch. There was no "running around."

Actually what you don't do is get knocked on your ass by dean McAmmond, get up, skate the length of the ice, and try and end his career with an elbow. Downie should have been thrown out of hockey for that move, and if getting his arse kicked by Carkner once is all he gets, he's lucky.

This has been a great GDT so far, I love danishh's setup, especially the cheer zone.

Brian Lee is an NHL caliber defenceman, he just had a slow start as he had last season.
