Not to derail the thread, but please get healthy for the western canada road trip gabby!
I realize byers hasn't looked stellar in some of his games so far this season, but this is an important chance for him. He doesn't have to score, but if he can play with "jam", i think torts will give him a good look.
I suppose the good news is he's skating. Hate to give those Minny fans the satisfation of him trying to play but being ineffective in his return. Or worse getting more seriously injured...
I hate to quibble with you guys on your own board, but this is one Minnesota fan who's quite relieved. Even a 70% Gaborik would probably have made our defense look like the pirate soccer team in that Monty Python skit, where the pirates all stood there on one leg going "garrr garrr" while the other team just raced past them scoring goals like Lebron James scores baskets. As much time as our D spend out of position, the biggest problem for Gaborik would have been fatigue from blowing past them all night.
You guys don't know him yet as well as we do, but you'll come to see that just about anytime he's on the ice, he's still one of the top 4 or 5 gamebreaking threats in the league, even injured. One thing about him is that injuries don't usually hamper him very much, which I suspect is a big part of the reason the coaching staff are sitting him tonight. He tends not to favor injruies, at least not as much as you would hope he might. He tries to go all out every time he gets a chance, and often winds up aggravating the injury. Our coaches learned that lesson a little too late, but maybe yours have learned from our mistakes. He's a guy that it's never a bad idea to keep him out an extra game or two, just to be safe.
That said, I still have mixed feelings about the whole thing. Even though I expected him to light us up, I was still kind of looking forward to seeing him play at the X again. I was even thinking of going to the game and cheering the guy when he was introduced, to balance out some of the boos. But I suppose it's for the best. I don't wish him any ill, and it'd be a shame if he blew out a knee or whatever trying to show up his old team. Some might call it poetic justice, to be sure; but a shame nonetheless.
At any rate, at least now it might be a more even contest. Watch for a lot of odd man rushes, most of them going in the direction of our goal. If your guys can exploit that, you'll have a good chance even without Gaborik. If not, there's no telling what's going to happen. Our team is way too inconsistent to make any predictions. At best, they'll turn in a solid effort and be competitive. At worst... you'll wake up tomorrow morning, look at the score in the newspaper, and say, "That's odd. I thought they said Gaborik wasn't playing last night?"
Alright....so it oughta be a very interesting games... let's play a tough rough game and get the W...let's bulldoze the wild and show everyone that even being down 3 players including our best player we can win games!!!! let's pull together and do it!!! LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!
Both Avery and Higgins didn't skate yesterday in practice.
Higgins hurt himself in the 1st period of the Islander game. Avery who knows.
I remember Avery heading to the bench in pain. I think it was in the third. When he fell on Roloson and his mask came off. He was favoring his right leg, hopefully he didnt hurt the same place that he hurt in the preseason practice.
