Scott Niedermayer

per Eklund

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklun...n-more/1/23993

Quote:
A source has informed me that Scott Niedermayer may be considering a move later this season that would land him either back in NJ or with the Bruins or Flyers.

Imagine Niedermayer reunited with Pronger in Philly. The Flyers have tried and come close on multiple occasions over the years to land Scott Niedermayer. Cap space is a huge issue, but all it would take is a major player going down to injury to free up the space between now and the end of February.
It says not until deadline, but is another defenseman what we need?

Obviously our defense would be stacked with Niedermayer. Who knows, might help us hold on to that lead that we havent been able to keep of late. Granted this move wouldnt be made till the deadline, but it couldnt hurt I think.

I'd like to know who goes to fit Niedermayer in under the cap, since Homer pissed away $1.4 million yesterday.

Well, if Briere and Gagne (hypothetically) are done for the year, Homer could trade for Frolov and Neidermayer with our newfound $12 mill cap space.

I could also win the lottery, but hey, it's possible.

No, but our defense would be just absurd.

Funny thing is that keeping Scott Niedermayer was a big reason the Ducks traded Pronger.

Assuming Anaheim would move him...

Who/what do you give the Ducks to acquire him? It's not like they'd be giving him away.

in order to get Niedermayer we would have to lose some decent pieces of this team or a **** ton of our future ala picks. I for one have no interest in this. I don't care whos coming back this team is good enough healthy and with a coach who doesnt have a head in his ass. That is pure speculation though since this team has never been healthy with said coach.

If we got Niedermayer, we would have an aging but good defense (with no system) and a hand full of really good healthy forwards and a over abundance of fourth liners.

This was supposed to be our big push for the cup year, so far it's turning into a disaster

When will people learn that Eklund is not a rumour source?

True, every once and a while one of his 'rumours' pans out, but he reports everything he hears, reliable or not.

We have no cap space and no assets to trade. Nice try Eklund.

Why would Scott Niedermayer come to play for the Flyers?

So he's not going to be traded to the Flyers, Bruins, or Devils.

Flyers need a forward who can score if Gags and Briere end up missing a lot of time.

The only way I see this happening is if Gagne or Briere go down for the year and the flyers are willing to part with Coburn (which may be possible considering his contract is up). JVR and Giroux would also have to keep a strong pace through out the season to show they are ready to be reliable top 6 forwards for the playoffs.

Hartnell-Richards-Briere
JVR-Carter-Giroux
Pyorala-Betts-Asham
Carcillo-Powe-Lap

Timonen-Nieder
Pronger-Carle
Tolle-Parent

Very unlikelly, but pretty ****in scary to look at lol

If a roster like that didn't win us a cup, I'd officially become a Rangers fan until Stevens is run out of town
