Cogliano to Preds

To Edmonton,

Erat, Franson, and a 4th round pick

To Nashville,

Cogliano and a 2nd/3rd round pick

No reason for EDM to do it, Erat is a nice player but right now were overburdened with his type of wingers. Franson is a good D prospect but we have a bunch of our own that we don't have to give up Cogliano for.

Yep. Not to mention that Edmonton is up against the cap and can't take on Erat's salary.

Well that sucks then!

I always forget about cap issues, since my team never has any...

Who would be more of interest from preds to oilers???

My counter proposal.

Cogliano + Gilbert

for

Hamhuis (signed to a multi year contract under 4 million) + 2 1st round picks.

Edmonton is eating too much Salary in this deal. Take Nilson or Moreau
and you've got a deal. Cogs makes 1.1M then is RFA. Chances are he'll get 2M-2.5M... so the cap hit would be pretty fair.

I think Erat would be a good player to have as 2nd line winger. Him, Comrie and Hemsky would be great.

Penner-Gagner-Brule
Erat-Comrie-Hemsky
Like that top 6 a lot.

I really like Cody Franson's upside. Offensive skills and great size. Already has a good season in the AHL under his belt. For the blueline next season we could do:

Souray-Gilbert
Lubo-Smid
Chorney-Franson/Petry

Waive Staios(who'd be on the last year of his contract) and either trade the rights to Grebs or take picks for an offer sheet. I really like the top-6 d there. Chances are Franson would be a little bit ahead of Petry because he's played in the AHL... but Petry is off to a very hot start with the Spartans. Either way we've got a good left handed defenseman available when a d-man goes down to injury.

If it was:

To Nashville:
Cogliano(1.1M then RFA)
Nilson(2M this season and next then RFA)/Moreau(2M this season and next then UFA)
3rd rounder

To Edmonton:
Erat
Franson

I'd be very happy with that. If you don't want to take the cap hit back, Edmonton can't afford the deal. We've got guys to resign next year and can't be eating cap space.

That's crazy.

Edmonton fans couldn't possibly refuse.
Nashville fans couldn't possibly accept.

The only thing Nashville has that I would want the Oilers to acquire is named Dan Hamhuis.

He's a piece the Oilers need on defence. He's a UFA after this year so his contract extension would need to be a part of the deal.

With Nashville giving up 2 first rounders in the deal!?!?!? Seriously? That's nuts! What are they supposed to give up if Hamhuis doesn't resign? Another 2 first rounders?

Nashville wouldn't have to give up anything else if he didn't resign, because we'd finally have more money to spend on our forwards. A deal like this gets us out of a logjam on the blue line big time.

Cogliano is a young player with untapped potential because there are too many offensive players in Edmonton, he's a 30-30-60 player when he's at his peak.

Gilbert has put up 45 points last year and had 33 points with 13 goals the year before as an over aged rookie. He's good for 4 points a year, he's similar to Suter.

You say you want offence, well here you've got a guaranteed 25-35 goals + 60-70 assists.

Do you have a counter proposal including Hamhuis signed to a multi year extension.

Are you kidding? Do you know why Cogs isn't getting many minutes this year? We've spoken about this for 2 seasons now.

1: He can't win enough faceoffs when playing center position.
2: He always gets caught out of position when he plays on either wing. He waders back to center all the time.

Here's an attempt:

Gilbert(4M for 5 years), Grebs (3M this year then RFA, you most likely trade him or let someone sign him and take picks next year), Nash - Prospect with 2nd/3rd line potential. He's done nothing but absolutely impress more and more since being drafted.

I'd be willing to throw in a draft pick, but not a 1st.

Souray-Weber - SCARY! AHHH!!!
Lubo-Smid - SO UBER I FAINT!
Chorney-Strud/Staios/Peckham --- Petry next year. --- ZZZAAAAAAMMMMYYYGOOOODDDAAA!!

I don't know about that. He's great positionally at center, he's the fastest skater in the league and he's a very good penalty killer for his age considering he came in as an offensive tool. The face-offs will come along with experience... as for the positional play... you'd have to assume it would.

That top four, especially with Weber and Souray would be AMAZING.
I personally would like to keep one of Gilbert or Grebeshkov.

If Weber was in the discussion, how about:

Gilbert
Cogliano
Nilsson
Nash

Weber
Smithson

There isn't room for Cogs on the Oilers, and we need to clear out someone to make room to sign Gagner, Brule, Grebeshkov, Deslauriers, etc.

I would assume it takes more then that to get Weber.

Cogliano
Eberle
Gilbert

for

Weber
Smithson

No way in hell would Eberle be involved in a trade for a d-man. No way at all. Period. He's owning the WHL this year... as expected. He'll be a point per game or better in the AHL unless he goes straight to the NHL after this season. Book it.

when you factor in all the injuries the oiler have just over 500k is cap space left

Now only if the Gms would agree to it... I'd go bonkers... literally.

Imagine Souray and Weber together?

I'd love to have Erat, but not at the cost of Cogliano.

What about something like Nilsson, Moreau/Pisani/Staios and a prospect for Erat?

Throw in Gagner and Eberle and Poile doesn't die laughing on the spot.
