curiosity

I am looking for a 3rd liner center. The guy must be a young NHL vet, healthy, tough, somewhat big, great on draws, good hockey sense, and in general be the guy that controls the other teams scoring threat plus chips in alittle offensively.

My guy does not need to me the primary or even secondary scoring threat but will be expected to contribute. Think a faster Mike Sillinger.

1- What is the value if one wanted to trade for this player?
2- What should be expeted in a trade?
3- Are there any players like this available now or in immediate future?
4- Approx cap hit?

Oh and by the way, this third line center is for the hoovering at 500 NY Isles squad of 2009-2010

thanks in advance

a few names that I've come up with are:

Malhotra - is a FA at the end of the year, should have nabbed him this offseason because I don't think SJ are willing to move him or his $700k salary. He does everything that you listed

Lombardi - not really tough, but does everything else. He's a FA at the end of the yr. If the Yotes start to slide, I could see him available for something like a 2nd and a mid level prospect. If the Yotes are still in the playoff hunt, he would stay in Phx (I guess it all depends on what happens with the sale of the team as well) cap hit 1.8 (ish)

Stajan - again not tough, but does the other stuff. FA at the end of the yr. TO will probably try to move their FA by the deadline. I could see him moved for a 2/3 ish pick, or maybe a prospect. cap hit 1.75

Belanger - maybe the best option since he's probably available because Minny looks so bad this yr. He's a FA at the end of the yr makes 1.75, and could probably be had for a 3rd and 5th or something like that

Talbot - makes 1.05 per, but might take a lot for Pitt to move him - he plays on Pitts 4th line, but could be a 3rd on most teams.

other guys that sort of meet the criteria are: R. Neidermeyer, Reasoner, Hecht (Buff might pay you to take him off their hands), Pahlsson, Goc (more of a 4th liner), Steen, Halpern, and that's about all I got

Lapierre from Montreal but couldn't imagine them trading him.

With Trevor Lewis, Andrei Loktionov, and Brayden Schenn in the system, Michal Handzus and/or Jarret Stoll could become available in the next few seasons.

Personally, I'd much rather keep Handzus than Stoll, which works out because I believe Stoll is more valuable trade-wise. He's younger, and while he's not as effective of a checking center as Handzus, most people believe he is better offensively, and he can play the point on the powerplay.

I'm not ready to give up on Nielsen yet, but I would trade him for Matt Lombardi or Matt Stajan.

I've heard it's killed a lot of cats. So guess it really comes down to how highly you value murdered felines.

i think you just described chris kelly, but his cap hit (2.125 for 2 more years) might be prohibitive for the isles.
