Andrei Kostitsyn

Been seeing lots of proposals lately involving the Kostitsyns. They usually devolve into pissing matches about what the brothers are worth. Now, Sergei's value is easy: it's zilch. However, what is Andrei worth?

Here's some basics if you aren't acquainted:

- Played two full seasons in the NHL; scored 26 and 23 goals
- Slow start to this year (1-3-4 in 11 games)
- Plays both wings, but more comfortable and productive on the right
- Goal-scorer above all; could hit 30 with the right linemates and situation
- Doesn't play much defense, so a bottom-six role is out of the question
- Has responded poorly to the "darkest day in Habs history" BS; would probably benefit from an environment with a smaller media presence
- Only 24 years-old; lots of raw talent that needs to be moulded

I was thinking that maybe Washington would be a good fit for him. There's lots of Russians there, tons of offensive talent to learn from, and not many right-wingers; I think he'd be dynamite playing with Semin.

So yeah... what's he worth?

The latest news revolves around the Canadiens asking for a forward, a prospect and a defencemen in return for both of the Kostitsyn Bros. No official word has come about the pedigree of any of the positions the Canadiens might be asking for, but that the trade is mostly for forward Andrei with his brother Sergei as a throw in.
Just read this article this morning. Not sure if it's reliable or if the Habs are shopping him, but it looks like they'd be looking for a package return.

Not much at this time as he is struggling. His trade value is under par, Habs best to keep him and hope he gets back on his game. He is young 25 goal scorer. If they deal him they will not get anything of value back...so best to wait out his struggles

The Kostitsyns are now worth Dany Heatley?
I think the Habs are better of keeping them both right now. Buy low, sell high!

It sort of ends up being buy low, keep high, though. I mean, if Kostitsyn was playing well, we probably wouldn't want to trade him. There shouldn't be pressure to sell low, anyway, but who knows, maybe some pro scout out there does have a favourable impression of Kostitsyn based on watching him before the current mega-slump, and based on projecting out his physical skillset. Maybe some team out there has a similarly underperforming player with upside who just needs a change of scenery. Or has a payroll/free agency justification to make a trade. It makes sense to continue monitoring the pulse of the trade market, without feeling like sell-low is the inevitable outcome.

I'd do that, throw in a pick as well, though you could possibly be more interested in Fleischmann for a Czech connection. Though you need salary going the other way as well, possibly Clark?

Semin Backstrom Kostitsyn would be a very legit 2nd line and that would allow us to bring back Laich Steckel Bradley on the 3rd.

That would be more relevant if the Kostitsyns were Russian... they're from Belarus.

Pfah... If you're from anything involved in this, then you're Russian to me.

Kostitsyn bros imo could bring in a second liner a mid level Dman and a prospect so say we trade with Nashville, they could do

Kostitsyn Brothers to NAS
Erat, Hamhuis, Geoffrion to MTL

Habs take this deal and run into the sunset laughing like hyenas. Terrible deal for Nashville

From Det: Leino, Lebda and Smith/Mursak?

I'd prefer a 6th/7th Dman over SKost if possible.

You sir are delusional if you think both Kostitsyns bring in that return. Andrei has some value, but he is far inconsistent and still unproven as a top six winger. As for Sergei, he's proven to be a whiny brat that not many teams will be patient with.

It is still relevant though. As Russian and belorussian are not that much different at all.

What?!

Andrei Kostitsyn is worth about a 2nd round pick.

Kostitsyn stats 2007-08: 26+27=53 in 78 games
Kostitsyn stats 2008-09: 23+18=41 in 74 games

Quote:
Chicago traded C Robert Lang to Montreal for Toronto’s 2nd-round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft (previously acquired).
Lang stats 2007-08: 21+33=54 in 76 games
Lang stats 2008-09: 18+21=39 in 50 games

Quote:
Buffalo traded RW Ales Kotalik to Edmonton for Carolina's 2nd-round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft (previously acquired).
Kotalik stats 2007-08: 23+20=43 in 79 games
Kotalik stats 2008-09: 20+23=43 in 75 games

Or he's worth about Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo (although Stempniak had 13 points in 14 games when traded, his career stats are inferior to Kostitsyn):
Quote:
Nov. 24, 2008: Toronto traded D Carlo Colaiacovo and C Alex Steen to St. Louis for RW Lee Stempniak.
Stempniak stats 2007-08: 13+25=38 in 80 games
Stempniak stats 2008-09: 13+23=36 in 75 games

Or he's worth about Clay Wilson and a 6th-rounder if you want to take into consideration his pathetic work ethic:
Quote:
Jan. 14, 2009: Atlanta traded C Jason Williams to Columbus for D Clay Wilson and San Jose's 6th-round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft (previously acquired).
Williams stats 2007-08: 13+23=36 in 43 games
Williams stats 2008-09: 19+28=47 in 80 games

Sergei Kostitsyn is also worth about a 2nd round pick.

Kostitsyn NHL stats 2007-08: 9+18=27 in 52 games
Kostitsyn AHL stats 2007-08: 6+16=22 in 22 games
Kostitsyn NHL stats 2008-09: 8+15=23 in 56 games
Kostitsyn AHL stats 2008-09: 5+8=13 in 16 games

Quote:
Chicago traded C Rene Bourque to Calgary for a conditional 2nd-round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft.
Bourque NHL stats 2006-07: 7+10=17 in 44 games
Bourque NHL stats 2007-08: 10+14=24 in 62 games

Quote:
Montreal traded C Mikhail Grabovski to Toronto for a 2nd-round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft and D Greg Pateryn.
Grabovski NHL stats 2006-07: 0+0=0 in 3 games
Grabovski AHL stats 2006-07: 17+37=54 in 66 games
Grabovski NHL stats 2007-08: 3+6=9 in 24 games
Grabovski AHL stats 2007-08: 8+12=20 in 12 games
