You know, this is just a suggestion, but since we finally have some legitimate prospects playing for Cincinnati, why not turn this into a thread for the Ads and the Cykes?

Jeremy Smith recorded his first professional shutout last Saturday, a 22-save effort against the Johnstown Chiefs.

Smith got a full weekend of action, stopping 37 of 40 shots and winning a pair of matches against Wheeling. Through three full games, he's 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .952 save percentage. He's the only goalie in the ECHL with multiple starts to have a GAA of 1 or less. Chris Mueller and Mark Voakes powered the Cincinnati offense to a combined 8 goals in two games, with each notching three goals and an assist (Voakes had a hat trick on Friday). The Cykes next game is in Elmira this coming Friday.

The Ads managed to eek out a win in their home opener against Manitoba after taking a pounding at the hands of the IceHogs. Ben Guite scored the game-winner, while Mike Santorelli (4g+4a in 4 games) potted a pair of goals and Robert Dietrich (0g+5a in 7 games) posted two assists. They host Abbottsford on Wednesday.

Has there been any word on Laakso? I saw from ASS that he was injured, but I haven't heard anything yet so I'm assuming it's not that serious...

Barry Trotz basically told me that Santorelli on the wing was a failed experiment.

It has to do with a quote from Coach Lambert talking about Mark Santorelli last season. I'll let ShortShifts explain though, as they are the ones that gave Mark the nickname...

Another player making noticeable progress is Mark Santorelli. We nicknamed the winger "The Itch" last year because of all the games where he was a healthy scratch. He may earn a new nickname this year. Due in part to potential playing time...and also this quote:

"Mark Santorelli has gained a step, which he's needed to do. The proof will be in the pudding and time will tell with him. He's looked very good - he played very well in rookie camp in Nashville."

Mark "Pudding" Santorelli. We kind of like that.

We made a promise to upgrade Mark Santorelli from "Pudding" to "The Proof" if he scores 10 goals this year.

Mark "The Proof" Santorelli sounds pretty cool.

We've certainly received some mixed feedback on this one. Not everyone likes the Pudding nickname. But we do - so we're gonna stick with it.

5 goals scored in the first half of the second period in Wheeling. 4-2 Cincy. Mayer in goal.

Ads and IceHogs are nil-nil after one. Pickard in goal.

Matt Pierce with his first hat trick of the season (4,5,6) and Bryan Marshall with two goals and a helper in his debut with the Cykes propels them to a 6-3 win over Wheeling.

Time winding down in Rockford, Ads up 2-1 on O'Reilly's first goal of the year.

Ads Recap - Halloween Weekend

The Admirals had a pair of good scares over Halloween weekend, but came out of it with the upper hand as they took both games in a home-and-home with Rockford. Cal O'Reilly and Robert Dietrich were big offensive contributors in the series, with Dietrich posting three assists (including both game winners), and O'Reilly notching the game-winner on Saturday and an assist on the game-winner on Friday. O'Reilly and Matheson each opened their offensive accounts for the year in the second tilt, and Chet Pickard notched his first professional win between the pipes in the same game. Chris Mueller made his debut with the Admirals on Saturday night, leading the team in shots with three. Mueller played 59 games with Lake Erie last year, posting 5 goals and 16 points.

The Ads are back in action on Wednesday as they host their arch-rival, the Chicago Wolves. They host the Peoria Rivermen on Friday, November 6th, and then go dark for the weekend before playing three in three nights on the road next week.

If our injuries on defense start to mount, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the call. He's gradually working his way up the depth chart. If not this year, then likely next year.

Ads Recap - 11/4-11/8

The Admirals played a pair of games last week as part of a three-game home stand (they host Abbottsford next Thursday) and came away with only one point, conceding a combined seven goals to Chicago and Peoria.

In a game that saw Chris Chelios play his first-ever contest at the Bradley Center, the Admirals rallied back from a two-goal deficit early in the second period as Mark Santorelli (3) gave the Ads the lead at 3:49 of the second stanza. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, the goal would be the last that the Admirals scored, as Arturs Kulda (2) tied the game later in the second, and Tim Stapleton (7) put up his second goal of the night midway through the third to put the Wolves up for good, with an assist from - guess who? - Chris Chelios. The veteran defender had a pair of assists on the night and was named second star of the game. The Admirals will host Chicago four more times this season.

Two nights later, the Ads hosted the Peoria Rivermen in a game where the Admirals played from behind yet again, down 3-1 at the halfway mark. Peter Olvecky (3) closed the gap late in the second, and, of all people, Hugh Jessiman (1) tied the game at 11:39 of the third period. The game would go into a shootout, where Mark Dekanich conceded goals to all four Peoria shooters, and the Admirals came away with a lone point in a 3-4 shootout loss.

The Admirals will host the Abbottsford Heat on Thursday before going on an eight-game road trip, including a game the following night against Grand Rapids, and one the night after that in Peoria.

Results
11/4/09 - Milwaukee 3 vs. Chicago 4 (Attendance: 2,902)
11/6/09 - Milwaukee 3 vs. Peoria 4, Shootout (Attendance: 5,056)

Injuries & Transactions
Teemu Laakso - Returned to Lineup on 11/4/09
Chris Mueller - Recalled from Cincinnati

Ryan Jones' numbers really stick out to me. In half as many games, Chris Mueller, a guy almost all Predators fans have probably never heard of, already has more points than he does.

Not that it really matters - but Chelios was actually playing his second game at the Bradley Center. He played a game there in December 1992 as a member of the Blackhawks.

They should. He really is playing pretty well. The fact that he has zero points, but is still has an even +/- is indicitive of the strong defensive game he has been playing.

So what i have seen throughout the season for the preds and admirals is alot of call ups and send downs.

One player who has been pretty damn good who has yet to get a call up is Blum. Blum has already put up good numbers for his rookie season and proving himself that he is going to be a huge asset to the preds in the future.

I think its time for him to show that he is NHL ready.

I disagree. Blum needs the seasoning in Milwaukee to get used to the pro game. And the Preds have other prospects that are at the make it or break it point in their careers. Sulzer, Franson, and Laakso need to be sorted out before the Preds worry about calling up Blum.
