Looks like the team is that desperate. Matt was on a 25 game try out contract with the Moose.

Raised in Victoria, huge fan of the team. Good, if not much needed, re-re-resigning.

I figured he would need to clear waivers, similar to what Lemieux did last year

I thought he was a decent bottom 6 guy...Had that one big hit that cut up the face of Toews I want to say...correct me if I'm wrong...

Hopefully this means less defensemen as forwards.

Good move.

The guy is 29 and has 400 recent NHL contests under his belt.

We're out of bodies and there's no question that Pettinger will be a more serviceable NHL 3rd/4th line body than Bliznak/Rome/Desbiens/whoever at this point. Or Johnson/Hordichuk/Glass for that matter.

I was surprised when he didn't stick at last season's training camp. He always struck me as a guy with good speed and a decent shot. If he works hard I don't see why he couldn't be an improvement to our 4th line.

He wasn't that bad in his first stint, certainly won't look out of place on the third line.

It doesn't concern anyone that he couldn't get a sniff ANYWHERE in the NHL?

not considering recently we dressed 2(!) defensemen as forwards.

I like this. I was not too happy when it was a lose him or brown thing last year. Because we ended up losing him on re-entry if i am not mistaken.

So far Toews career against the Canucks has been pretty nasty.

It probably should have been neither of them. As far as I'm concerned, both are upgrades on our current 3rd/4th lines.

I certainly think Pettinger is an upgrade over someone like Tanner Glass..for when everyone gets healthy. Until then we should be content that he'll be on our second line instead of Shane O'Brien.

You almost have to wonder if we really would have seen Andrew Raycroft skate as our second line left winger had Luongo not gotten hurt.

Dan Cloutier skating as one of our wingers would definately make us grittier.

Good stop gap signing. Dude isn't just an energy guy, he's shown he's capable of putting up 30+ point seasons at the NHL level and was on exactly 30 point pace when we had him for 20 games last time.

Makes sense, he knows the system and whats expected of him having played lots of NHL games and if he can raise his game he could elevate himself on the depth chart after we get some healthy bodies back to be called up again. It crossed my mind to sign him after Grabs injury and judging by the post game comments of AV kind of figured there wouldn't be a Shirokov call up again just yet. What have we got to lose at this point in bringing in Pettinger. We are winning games at this point so there is no need to panic, we are keeping our heads above water with all the injuries. If we start tanking it, then maybe we could look at other options for player personnel but hopefully we get some regulars back before that. I mean it's better then nothing I guess, I really thought we got rid of this guy for good but in our situation why not? and I am sure it's for the right price too!

He's going to suck. He'll get a limited role. What else is there to do?

I still think that Pettinger could be as good as Pyatt.

Why didn't he make any other NHL team as a fourth liner, though? Did he have a horrible year?

If the last few weeks are any indication it won't be a game or two before he gets injured, too.
