I saw flashes of some offensive upside whenever he played against the Canucks. I haven't seen him play too extensively but I always thought he would make a nice addition provided we had the space.

I wouldn't mind him on our team right now... but what would we do once everybody starts coming back from the sick bay?

He'd just be waived again.

Christensen is a terrible player. He's good in shootouts and looks like he has some skill, but it never translates, and he's failed to produce even when played with elite linemates at times in Pittsburgh and Anaheim. And he's a godawfully soft player who is terrible in his own zone.

As a 3rd/4th line stopgap who can be serviceable at both ends of the rink and finish his checks, Pettinger is highly preferrable.

Glad to see Pettinger back. Mark me down as another person who was sad to see us lose him last year. Hell, the guy's scored 20 goals in a season before, which already makes him way more appealing than Glass.

I predict Pettinger will outscore Wellwood this season (more NHL points).

Absolutely agree. Christensen defines soft and one way (and not even that good going that one way). He is on waivers for a reason.

Think Petttinger wanted to play locally. Went to the Moose to get on with the Canucks. To me Pettinger is very mediocre. Kinda of tweener - not good enough offensively to play top 6 and not really good enough defensively or tough enough to be considered a prime 3rd or 4th line player. Was drafted for his offense but couldn't produce enough to play that role in the NHL. Players like him sometimes can modify their game enough to take on another role and maybe this is possible with Pettinger.

I wonder the impact on the Canuck overall cap position. They have room for the contract and the deal must be a two way deal. Could be Pettinger ends up being in a Baumgartner/Keane situation where he becomes a leader on the Moose and sometimes callup for the Canucks.

IMO

Rypien, Hordichuk (based on toughness), Hansen> Pettinger

Glass, Bolduc = Pettinger

Pettinger > Johnson, Bliznak (right now)

Pettinger >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rome as a winger

See Shirokov, Grabner in a different role

I, jokingly, suggested this to a friend. At the time I didn't even realize he was with the Moose. Glad he performed well enough to get a NHL contract. I liked what he brought when he was here. Couldn't be worse than Rome. Was pretty good on the penalty kill too.

I do not believe so as Pettinger is UFA.

IIRC Lemieux had to clear waivers because he was coming back from retirement.

I like Pettinger in his time here. The guy has great wheels and can play a decent serviceable bottom six game. He reminded me a lot of a Jan Bulis or a Sami Kapanen type in his time here. I like this signing, if anything it makes our 4th line faster and less filled with suck.

I'm goin' to say that Wellwood is probably going to put up a couple more points along side Pettinger rather than the Moose players he's been with all year thus far.

I know you're joking (at least I hope you are) but he's in the KHL.

Problem is that Wellwood was getting 2nd unit power play icetime and not doing much with that either.

I thought he was very overrated when he was here.

Yeah he's fast and that's great but there's a reason he isn't with an NHL team. I'll take the 30 NHL GM's opinion of the guy over anyone on a message board. I was very happy when he was waived.

Good fill in type player though, I'd rather have Bulis back. Seriously, I miss him on the PK.

Apparently Pettinger will harness the Mats Sundin and wear #13

Jan Bulis, Harold Druken, Murray Baron, Martin Rucinsky, Bryan Smolinksi and Marc Chouinard. Let's go!

When he suits up, Pettinger will be the 22nd forward utilized by AV so far this year...

I don't think he was overrated, the point was that he was being released while there were players on the team he was better than. No one ever built him up as anything spectacular other than a competent veteran bottom 6 NHL player. There are lots without contracts.

Montreal, Nashville, Boston, Islanders, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Anaheim, Florida, Minnesota, Carolina, Toronto.

Those are the teams that would have a chance to grab Christenson before the Canucks could.

I believe Claude Lemieux was re-assigned to minors upon being signed.

As per TSN:
07-Oct-03 Contract bought out by the Dallas Stars.
24-Nov-08 Signed by the Worcester Sharks to a tryout contract.
29-Dec-08 Signed by the San Jose Sharks to a one-year contract.
19-Jan-09 Recalled from Worcester (AHL).

As he was bought out of his last contract I don't see any reason why coming out of retirement would require him to clear waivers.
