Chubarov is actually out of hockey at the moment (I believe due to back injuries)

I like his speed and he's got a pretty good shot.

Yeah, good to see. His days were numbered when he suited up for the Ducks and the Stars and now he's looking like a top-9 forward again with one of the league's arguably best offenses.

He has speed but thats about it.

The problem with pettinger is that he doesn't have top 6 skill and isn't exactly good defensively. He was a plug last time he was here.

He needs to know that his role is on the 3rd line and improve his defensive game and play with a chip on his shoulder. That hit on toews was good, but make it a hit a game or more.

A player he should try to play like is rob niedermayer. The canuck bot 6 is in a mess right now. He has an opportunity to really grab a full time spot. Its up to him if he can be an elite 3rd liner or a plug like before.

Btw he can't fight so i don't get the comparisons to hordichuk/glass etc. Those guys serve a different role. Whether they are doing a good job of it, that is a different story.

Orcatown's <, > was quite accurate.

He'll get a few games in before we start getting guys back from injury. I can't see him sticking with the big club all season though, unless the injury situation continues. There are too many forwards ahead of him on the depth chart.

So it tells you exactly what they think of Shirokov...
and that he's most likely going to play for the Moose the rest of the year

Don't understand all the sarcastic responses to Jan Bulis. A good Nonis signing. Sure he wasn't the top six forward *Bulis* thought he was, but he was decent 3rd line winger who was respectable on the PK. For $1.5 million (or whatever he made) - good value.

Yup. Bulis post dad ass-whoopin' was a very productive player, but he must have really burned some bridges during this moping period to not get offered a contract.

24-Nov-08 Signed by the Worcester Sharks to a tryout contract.
29-Dec-08 Signed by the San Jose Sharks to a one-year contract.
19-Jan-09 Recalled from Worcester (AHL).

As he was bought out of his last contract I don't see any reason why coming out of retirement would require him to clear waivers.
As I recall if you are coming out of retirement and not playing with the team you last played with, then waivers are required.

It was because Lemieux played in a foreign league at the beginning of the 08-09 season.

were retirement papers signed? would that matter?

perhaps if he had not signed papers he would not be subject to waivers?

Forgot about that. He played two games the China Sharks of the Asia League Ice Hockey so 13.23 of the CBA would be in effect.
Quote:
13.23 In the event a professional or former professional Player plays in a league outside North America after the start of the NHL Regular Season, other than on Loan from his Club, he may thereafter play in the NHL during that Playing Season (including Playoffs) only if he has first either cleared or been obtained via Waivers. For the balance of the Playing Season, any such Player who has been obtained via Waivers may be Traded or Loaned only after again clearing Waivers or through Waiver claim.

Our next signings:

Mats Sundin (out of retirement)
Markus Naslund (out of retirement)
Peter Forsberg (apparently healthy)

Imagine a line of Forsberg-Sundin-Naslund .

It'd be amazing watching that line back check. All of them would be stuck at the offensive blue line. Sundin because he will be out of breath, Forsberg will collapse from injury after a hard skate from the opponents goal line and Naslund will just be there because that's where he thinks his correct defensive position is.

As old and washed up as the three of them are, this would be the best 3rd line in the NHL, methinks.
Get on the phones, Gillis!

AV on Pettinger:

"I said Matt, we have a lot of injuries right now and you've got an opportunity to play and you've got to make the best of it," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said. "I said last year, guys outplayed you for a position and if you come in, outplay those guys, then you're going to stay."

Darcy Hordichuk's probably on that list as well, once everyone is healthy.

The guys who outplayed him were Raymond, Hansen, and Rypien.

That's the way it should be but sometimes cap issues enter into the equation...
