Something Unique?

Hey everyone!

I'll be in town in January and I'm looking for something that is unique to Red Wings fans, the arena, immediate area, etc. Are there any pre or post game "rituals" for fans that attend the games. Is there a hangout spot that is unique to Detroit?

How about at the game? I know somethings are a little obvious here, but anything will help!

I'd like to experience the game like a "local." Thanks!!

Buy an octopus at Superior Fish in Royal Oak (about 25-30 minutes outside of Detroit), sneak it in, and throw it on the ice.

The problem with 'the Joe' is that it is isolated from a lot of the bars (like Hockeytown and Cheli's) which are located near Comerica/Ford Field.

Its a nice walk along the water from the Renaissance Center. Are you going to be walking or driving?

There are shuttles for both Hockeytown, and Cheli's is a short walk...

The RenCenter is a nice place to walk... You can take pictures of the Fist and the Spirit of Detroit, and there is a pretty park. Inside the RenCenter is still pretty empty, but the architecture is cool.

Thanks everyone! Keep 'em coming! I'm working on a piece, so anything helps! Even things to eat at the game, like how Calgary has their "pocket dog."

I'm from LA, but spend my summers in Ann Arbor, so I'm a tad bit familiar with Detroit, but only a bit...and only in summer.

EDIT: I will have a car. And why that fish place for an octopus?

Really? Little Caesars as in...$5 pizza?

Just writing your everyday blog about my travels around the NHL and things to do in the cities/arenas (preferably those related to the team/sport), things they may be "known" for, etc. Of course this has been an idea of mine for years and I'm just getting around to actually writing about it. I'm going to have to re-visit many cities!

Trust me, at the Joe, the pizza isn't $5. More like $20. I'm going tomorrow to see the Bruins & Wings and I will be eating before hand.

Oh, I'm sure! I just know Little Caesars as the cheap place we get pizza for $5/pie for the kids at work when we need a billion pizzas for stuff.

Okay...a semi-example of something unique in LA:

Though it's not something to do, we have the "Duck Hunter." For all I know he could be here and reading this (hiii!), but when the Kings play the Ducks he dresses in camouflage clothing, wears a bright orange hunting vest and carries a plush duck hanging from a stick. He also has jerseys with the name "Duck Hunter" on the back.

It's nothing too fabulous, but you can't find him anywhere else!

Offhand I can't think of anything uniquely Detroit but I've only seen 7 games at the Joe.

Edit: I guess the Octopus is obviously something that would qualify as unique. In terms of a fan though I can't think of any.
