6-8 weeks isn't too bad. He'll be back in January and hopefully back on top of his game by February and ready for the playoff push.

But you're not accounting for the lingering, the uncertainty of the medical staff, a couple of hesitant games, sitting out the next 1-2 "just in case" and then ...

I hate being a pessimist.

I hope he gets the rectus surgery and both hernias and stays out an extra week or two, just in case. Gagne at 100% in January would be a lot more valuable than Gagne at 70-80% at Christmas.

Was this an issue during the summer for him?

Flyers forward Simon Gagne strained his groin practicing with Team Canada and will be examined by a team doctor in Philadelphia.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren says the Team Canada doctor doesn't believe the injury is serious but Gagne is returning for a second opinion anyway.

Holmgren says Gagne got hurt Monday evening and will have his follow-up exam with Flyers doctor Peter DeLuca on Wednesday.

The left wing was third on the team with 74 points last season and scored 34 goals, good for second on the team behind Jeff Carter.

Gagne, who had hip surgery to remove a bone spur and adhesions in May, said he felt tightness in his hip and groin as Monday night's practice started.

"I thought it was going to be an easy practice, but the tempo was very fast right away during the very first drill. Guys were obviously trying to show their best. I had been skating back home for about two weeks but not at that high level. I kind of felt that it was getting a little bit tight on me, close to the hip and groin," he said.

Gagne said he talked to the trainers and "they pulled me out and there was really no question to try to push it again."

Thanbks, MSE.

Hip, groin, abdominus, I wonder if Gagne's time is coming to an end.

He's 29. He'll be fine.

Simon Gagne’s surgery Tuesday at Hahnemann University Hospital was a success, the Flyers said.

According to general manager Paul Holmgren, Gagne underwent both scheduled procedures. He had a repair made to one small hernia on his right side, and he also had a repair made to his abdominal wall, which is expected to offer reinforcement to his lower groin.

The one who writes the paycheck won out apparently.

We don't know if it's a success until he gets on the ice and doesn't get hurt within the first 2 weeks though.

It would really scare me if they had an unsuccessful surgery

It happens. Tom Brady got that infection the first time they went in to fix his knee up.

He'll be pretty bummed if he's not ready for the Winter Classic; as long as he's healthy when he gets back, though, I don't care how long he takes to recover.
