I only saw him in the prospect game against the caps in preseason but I sure liked what I saw. Obviously the Flyers didn't see enough to keep him which surprised me when we have duds like Bellamy and Bealieu. Maybe they couldn't promise him enough ice time or something.

Maybe. I think it was difficult for him. He would've fit in well on the Phantoms, but I don't know if the Phantoms is a great career choice over the FNL.

You gotta remember, his dad is still the Flyers' scout over in Europe. He's actually the one we sent to go see Foppa.

He did look pretty good with the rooks though.

Maybe it had to do with the 50 contract limit. How many are we at now?

I think it's 47 since we had two available when we signed Betts. Holmgren wanted to "not get trapped."

http://www.capgeek.com/reserve_lists.php?Team=24

50 according to capgeek with Kaspar still up. That's 49.

Take off Hostetter and Rinaldo as well, and we're at 47. 3 spots open.

then it has to be 46 . . . if you are taking off Kaspar, Hots and Rinaldo you need to get rid of Jones too.

I thought it was a max of 50 contracts? We didn't bring on anyone after we let go of Jones did we? So wouldn't that be 4 people gone?

Flyers trade a prospect's rights to Nashville to free up space.

Rinaldo and Hostetter are sent back to CHL.

Then they sign Betts.

That brings the Flyers to 51 contracts, but Rinaldo and Hostetter don't count.

That puts the useful contracts at 49. Holmgren said he wanted to leave a slot open for options. That's why he waited to make the trade with Nashville before he signed Betts.

Flyers lose Jones on re-entry waivers to make it 48.

Kaspar is allowed to walk making it 47.

That is of course, if Kaspar's terminated contract doesn't remain on the list.

2 days ago, Morrison let in 1 goal on 33 shots.

His stats now are.

GAA: 2.39
SV%: .918

Record 9-3-2

I am realllyyy liking this draft pick.

Bertilsson is apparently sick and won't be skating for Sweden's U20 B team. It was briefly mentioned on the prospects board here, but I can't find anything to support it other than this:

http://www.swehockey.se/ImageVault/I...ltHandler.aspx

He's been replaced by a Tim Heed on the roster competition in Russia.

Don't know how many care about a minor detail like that, but I thought I'd include it.

So far Bertilsson has played 12 SEL games for no points and 27 PIMs.

Saw Eric Wellwood against the Soo last night.

Really like him on the wing, where he was playing last night. Definitely one of the fastest players in the OHL, and that causes a lot of problems for opposing defenses. He had a couple of nice rushes with the puck, although nothing really came of them. He was also very good on the penalty kill, as he always is. Before being held pointless in his last two games, Wellwood was on a major tear with 16 points in 9 games. Looks like you guys were pretty smart in grabbing him with a draft pick in 2009. At worst, he's an NHL 4th liner and strong penalty killer (Darroll Powe Part deux?).

At camps this summer the Flyers tried him around on the blueline.

Wellwood is still a giant mystery, but I think I'd keep an eye on his defensive development more than his offensive.

If he peaks you could be looking at a speedy guy who will play in both ends, but won't throw up a lot of points.

Darroll Powe-esque? I don't see Wellwood as giving that much effort, energy. I don't imagine him flying around and causing turnovers.

He's more of a quietly solid defensive specialist at the NHL level. Think Blair Betts. That is of course if he reaches his peak. He's got a very good idea of how to use his positioning effectively and make the most of cutting away chunks of open ice from opponents.

Update:

Morrison is in net for a 3-3 game for Saskatoon, just finished overtime and is going to a shootout as I type this.

DeSerres is in net for Brandon, who is down 4-0 to Prince Albert halfway through the third.

Hostetter had a goal in a 9-3 Erie win.

Wellwood had 2 assists in a 6-3 Windsor win.

Rinaldo was held pointless but had 6 penalty minutes in an 8-2 London win.

Labrecque had an assist in a 3-0 Shawinigan win yesterday, and had another assist in a 7-4 loss to Rimouski.

I watched Wellwood play tonight, and came away completely impressed.

The Flyers have a good one. He just doesn't give up on a play, he's fast as hell, and came very close to a couple of SH goals.

Disagree on this one, Chris. Wellwood is built more like, and plays more like Pyorala than Powe. I think he could be an NHL player someday.

Didn't say he was anything like Powe. I was actually disagreeing with someone who compared him to Powe.

Your assessment is right on. Pyorala/Betts, that quietly defensively responsible forward, is more his style.
