Rangers / Ducks trade brewing? (Higgins for Marchant?)

Just noticed this headline on ESPN's hockey page:
http://espn.go.com/nhl/

It says: "The Ducks might be close to trading for a key player from out east."

I don't have their 'Insider' subscription, so I don't know any specifics.
Who would the Ducks want?

The "big trade" is--according to Hockey Insider--Chris Higgins for Todd Marchant. Freaking earth shattering deal right there.

I have insider, and it links to an article which claims that the Rangers "are shopping Chris Higgins" and that the Ducks "are the team showing the most interest." They claim that Todd Marchant "could come back the other way."

what the hell do we need a glorified blair betts for? maybe if were for artyukhin and a late pick i'd be interested

edit - another thought, getting a guy like R2 allows us to banish voros to the 7th layer of hell, keep byers up fulltime AND have enough cap for a worthwhile dman. R2 makes $1.3MM less than Higgins.

Of course not. It's a terrible deal. Chris Higgins, even when he's doing nothing at all, is so much better than Marchant. And what the hell would Todd Marchant do for this team? His whopping zero points in 13 contests sure would help our anemic offensive output...

That deal sucks if true.

But i can see it happening because Torts needs more speed up front. I dont like it one bit though.

Meh, this trade does nothing to improve the team. We already have a team full of Marchants not scoring now.

At least Higgins scored last night... there's hope for him yet....

The only way I make that deal is if it's at the deadline and Higgins has played the whole season up to that point at his current pace.

And I'd also have to have my family threatened.

And Murray would have to have my balls in his hand at that moment.

Both teams are struggling, but this trade makes no sense at all unless we're dumping a contract in the process or the $1.1MM in cleared cap allows us to make an additional move to bring in more scoring.

Again, just for anyone that hasn't checked the stats... Marchant has ZERO point in 13 games this season.

There is no way I would do this deal. With Higgins scoring last night it mite give him a spark. Unless there is sometihng else moving with them in the deal I don't see a reason to do it.

thats the only thing that seems feasible if the Rangers actually want to upgrade the team.

If Higgins gets dealt it needs to be for a rugged defenseman who can crack some heads instead of marshmallows we have now (that means you R&R)

Marchant signed a two year contract as a 35 year old plus player.Second season of the contract counts next season. Just like Brashear's contract. Stay away.

If they take Rozy, Redden or Drury, its a great deal. Otherwise whats the point? Higgens isn't scoring but he cares and he's trying. He certainly hasn't been a liability.

You mean the deal is a guy with many 20 goal seasons over a shorter career, for a guy with one in his who career, is washed up and isnt even producing at his mediocre level?

We better get a pick or prospect or something. Marchant is about as useful as Boyle

Boyle seems to be pretty damn useful.
