Sauer back on the ice

Sauer back on the ice

It looks like Sauer ought to be back soon. It will obviously make for a difficult decision for the coaching staff.

Move Lepisto to forward. Put him on the Lombardi line.

Roll seven defensemen and double shift Doan and Vrbata.

Problem is, you're likely double shifting on a line that's going to get an awful lot of ice-time. It's the Lombardi/Upshall line that's missing a winger(assuming Upshall comes back in a timely fashion, and Lombardi heals sooner than later). Oh well, the two work so well together, I guess it doesn't really matter who the third guy is. You could double shift Doan, Vrbata, Prucha, and Winnik on that line, no problem.

What do you do to the defensive pairings? All three pairs have developed great chemistry, so far. Michalek is the perfect hand holder for Jovo, the Flames pair are working great together, while Yandle and Lepisto have a good thing going. Maybe have Sauer alternate partners? Z here, Yandle there, and Lepisto on a occasion, or something like that?

I think you could do it at home against certain teams and frustrate the **** out of them with the various combinations. I also like the current pairings but the situational flexibility of 7 D, especially against a very offense-oriented opponent, would keep the blueline fresh. The downside is the impact it would have on the offense. Bfyuglien played wing/D two years ago for Chi before they turned him in to a full-time wing, and while Lepisto doesn't have his size I think he has similar offensive upside.
