We all know Toronto is in need of a #1 centerman, and word has it Jokinen isn't exactly fitting in, in Calgary.

So with that being said, what would Calgary need in a deal for him to end up in Toronto?

Let's keep this civil.

Cheers

Hmm, of what the Leafs would be willing to give up and what they have to give up, I don't see the makings of deal here.

Matt Stajan.

Honestly, I don't like Jokinen on the Flames. He doesn't fit in. We just need another centre back that can play on the top 2 lines and is defensively responsible. Langkow, Stajan and Conroy down the middle would not look bad to me.

Done.

I thought Jokinen had a longer contract but he is UFA. This trade would be perfect. If he doesn't work out, just don't re-sign him. There isn't really anything to lose.

not interested in Jokinen, is more of a goal scorer then passer and so he won't be the answer besides kessel.

Calgary might want to dump some salary so they could go after someone at the deadline so I'd propse something like this...

To Calgary: John Mitchell, Garnett Exelby and prospect Jiri Tlusty
To Toronto: Olli Jokinen

Toronto would than have to make room for Jokinen's salary by waiving Toskala.

Thoughts

even if we dont play jokinen with kessel, how can you argue he isnt a substantial upgrade on most of our forwards.

blake grabs kessel
poni jokinen kulimen
hagman stajan stempniak
wallin primau orr

i think stajan is a very good 3rd line center, if we can get player to fill the top 2 lines he can move back to where he belongs and be successful there.

im not sure what jokinens value is, i cant see how the leafs can offer something better then mitchell + tlusty. if it cost substantially more then that i think i would decline

Leave Tlusty out of it and it is a deal.

yeah he probably is an upgrade on forwards no doubt but the assets we have to give is not worth it. Its better to spend the assets acquiring a playmaking centre to help kessel.

Yeah, this works for me too. People can quibble about adding picks or prospects or whatever from Toronto's side but this is a workable basis for a deal from Toronto's perspective. If they have to add to make it work, I'm ok with that.

That said, I'm not sure that Sutter is as anxious to deal Jokinen as flames fans are.

could the leafs not just include MVR and then CGY puts him on the IR

Mitchell or Stajan and Exelby for Jokinen is an interesting idea

any chance of a Tlustly for Backlund swap added on? Leafs get a young playmaking C and Flames a young sniper

The Flames don't need Exelby, as they already have a lot of depth on defense.

It'll likely take two forwards to acquire Jokinen, including a centre that can play top-6 minutes. I would imagine it would take Hagman and Stajan to land Jokinen.

And no way the Flames deal Backlund for Tlusty, who is extremely overrated by Leafs fans.

No reason for MVR to get dealt, its unclear whether he'll play again this season and he's already on LTIR I believe. Do the Flames need/want Exelby? I don't see why they would, but fine.

Backlund is going nowhere, so forget that one. No need to complicate stuff unnecessarily.

Hagman has a couple years left, is that not an issue for the Flames? Flames already probably teh best d in the league but adding Exelby as an expiring would still be amazing. Him and Gio as your bottom pair, plus you need depth for those playoff runs.

and not sure about the overrating thing, both have not been able to make the NHL roster and Tlustly has but up better numbers in the AHL. I think they are comparable but Playmaker for Sniper

but yeah it was a shot in the dark and best not to complicate the deal. Like the idea of Backlund and Kessel

Not that I don't entirely agree, but the bolded is quite clearly the pot calling the kettle black, and things like that tend to bother me.

Carry on.

Dougie is that really you making these trade ideas or did one of your friends hi-jack your password? You want to give up on Tlusty and Mitchell after a combined less than 150 games in the NHL for an up-coming UFA?

What is the value of MVR being on the IR of Calgary versus Toronto, he is done for the year? Or am I missing something?

Well, we do need a #1 centerman. Jokinen is only 30. We would have the rest of the season to lock him up. #1 centermans don't grow on trees. You need to give to get. I could care less about Tlusty, I worry about giving up on Mitchell.

I do think Mitchell would be a Sutter type player.

Calgary gave up Lombardi, Prust, and a first.

Stajan and Lombardi are fairly comparable. Calgary doesn't need another Prust. Toronto doesn't have a first. Start with Stajan, fill in the blanks in terms of value(equal to a first and a young energy player) and Calgary's specific needs.

Prust is worth Vandermeer, apparently, by the way. For whatever that's worth.

Unfortunately at this time Jokinen is not worth what he once was. Not to metion that was a deadline deal and we all know players values and inflated than.

Jokinen would also be somewhat of a salary dump as well as he makes 5mil.
