Forsberg signs with MoDo and Naslund comes of retirement to join him(no base salary)

Quote:
The Rangers are among the handful of NHL teams watching Peter Forsberg very closely when the 36-year-old free-agent center tests his chronically injured right foot in the Karjala Cup tournament that opens today in Sweden and will conclude over the weekend in Finland, The Post has learned.

"Yes, we have interest in Forsberg," GM Glen Sather said. "From the reports we've been getting, the foot is much better than it was a year ago.

"We'll scout him at the tournament and see what, if anything develops. But I've always liked Peter and I've always been interested in finding a way to bring him to New York, if possible."
Quote:
"Well," said Sather in response to the latter, "I'd have to say a lot of that would probably depend on money."

Hard to not at least be interested in a player like Forsberg.

Getting Sather to confirm anything is a bonus.

I think the question is, who isn't interested in Forsberg? You'd be silly not to be.

If Forsberg's foot won't fall apart, and he won't demand more than 1 million....Forsberg and Gaborik...............

Considering he'll play 3 NHL games and then get re-injured I certainly think the Rangers are foolish for even inquiring at this point.

Forsberg needs to know when it's time to hang them up

No...No... and friggin No unless it's a million or less. No way does this team own the two most fragile players in recent NHL history and expect to be anything but an above-average team.

i'd get jagr before forsberg.

The Glass line! Lisin-Foppa-Gaborik

In all seriousness, I think it would be a great addition (Obviously) but playing devils advocate here; The chemistry we build throughout the season is going to be just thrown out the window when he injuries his foot again.

I am totally for it though. Tort's just has to understand he is that great player that you don't give unlimited ice time too. At least not untill the playoffs

Who cares is his foot falls apart? That's a risk this team should be willing to take. There's a good chance they're not going anywhere with or without him. Why not play the lotto and see if we're lucky. The guy won't be here for more than 1 year anyway

Plus, Forsberg on one foot is still a better playmaker than anyone on this team

Who cares about the money? Its a one yr deal and it fills the biggest hole we have. I'm positive this will be a Roger Clemons deal in which he comes late in the season, well rested for the playoffs. Give him a $4 mill/yr contract for the final 20 games. That would be $1 mill against the cap. If you are so worried about space for other guys, SEND REDDEN TO HARTFORD.

I dont think it will. I'm saying cap room isn't a reason to pass on Forsberg bc there are solutions to the problem.

Especially considering MSG will become its own entity soon. You think Dolan and company is going to be willing to eat 25 million or so while Redden rots in Hartford? Not a chance.

The chances are even smaller if the space is being cleared for Petr friggin Forsberg

forsberg would look real nice on the pp and on anisimov's wing. if slats could make it work, i'd be all for it.

i think he'll end up signing with a team with a better chance at winning a cup though.

There's really no harm in giving him a shot, I'm not sure what reason people would have to freak out over the money. It's not as if 1 year of Forsberg is going to have any effect on Sather's ability to get into the free agent market.

I seriously doubt he's expecting a multi-year deal, and I doubt he's expecting a team to pony up a huge salary given his injury history. Didn't he come back and play for the Avs for something like $1MM? Hardly breaking the bank.

If he's half as good as he was when he came to Colorado the last time, he's easily as good as Prospal.

Forsberg is too slow to play on Gaboriks line IMO. Power play unit perhaps.

They have to entertain this. If they can get him for the right price then why not.

He is a Swede so Henrik may have some pull

When is his target to get back?. Olympics are a lock for him if he's healthy

If he takes the minimum with some performance based bonuses, might be worth it. Then again, we have too many players as is. What are we gonna do, have a fourth line of Higgins - Boyle - Kotalik?

I would very much like to have Forsberg in NYR, but: there's no way in hell he's coming to New York, if he comes over to NHL.

Healthy Forsberg ? = Forsberg on Broadway

Amazed Sather spoke publicly on this...showing Foppa he means business.

Lets keep our fingers crossed his foot is indeed capable of hockey.

Forsberg would be a VERY interesting addition to this team.

Id think he'd play PP with Gabby but would be on the 2nd line 5 on 5 taking attention away from Gabbys line.

All of a sudden the Rangers are not a one line team.
