Considering he played 17years in the NHL (more than 1000 Games), 18 if you consider the year of his first steps in the league, it's gonna be tough to beat.

Mario Lemieux didn't even play more games than Brisebois.

Whether you like it or not, Brisebois has had a great NHL career.

Half the province was on his back because he was paid like a first pairing top defense man and never played that way. He was grossly overpaid and when he came back for 1/3 that amount and was played as a seventh d-man everybody was OK with it.

That said the constant booing at the Bell Centre was shameful and not deserved.

He was never a great defensive d-man, though a lot of that had to do with the teams he was on. I remember times he was paired with Bouillon, Traverse, and even Christian Laflamme.

He was a career plus player (barely, but he was). Quite an accomplishment given his defensive liabilities - especially considering his TOI and the horrible teams he played most of his career on.

I also think his defensive mishaps were overblown - like most things are in Montreal.

What was he? Our 5th or 6th all-time leading scorer (defenseman)?

He would have been a really good defensive dman if it wasn't for his stupid brain cramps, but positionally speaking he was solid, even though everyone only noticed his mistakes.

Patrice was an all-around great guy and a class act. I'm sure he'll be part of the Habs organisation in the future. This is my recent favorite memory of him (start clip at 4:40). He deserved a longer ovation though, the least some of those fans could do.

I don't understand how a player so mediocre played for so long. Nevertheless, I'm not a hater, he's one of the "hole fillers" every team needs.

Enough said. It sounds like all the Brisebois haters are 15 years old or something and only saw him during his worst days in the NHL.

Good luck to him by the way!

you basically answered your own question. Defenseman have always been at a premium. The fact a guy like Chelios could still hang in there despite unable to skate or shoot speaks volumes.

To me what really held Brisebois back was his horrible horrible backwards skating. I have never seen a guy fall as often as him.

He was only mediocre near the end. Other wise he was solid.

The Habs asked way too much of Breezy in the late 90's. He was playing as a top 2 defenseman with the likes of Laflamme, Traverse, Lachance, Dykhuis, Quintal. He's a reliable 5-6 Dman at best you can't fault him for managements inability to develop reliable defenseman to help him out.

I've kind of assumed that if there is any genuine interest in signing Breezy by some NHL team, they're waiting to make sure he comes out of this race without a scratch. No way could he do this if he were signed by a NHL team.
