Wanting to trade a player while he's hot is pretty smarter than all the people who wanted to get rid of plekanec during the off season.. Not that I agree we should do this, i was already against trading plekanec, but still.

I wouldn't pick him up on waivers but I would on re entry waiver at half the salary. You can never have enough centremen on a team. He could easily play wing on our top 6 or centre the 3rd line.

I kinda think it's a no brainer if it's on re-entry unless the Habs are working on a trade (which what I think).

Should the Habs pick him up for the top 6 and try to move Plekanec while he is hot for a winger or a winger and a prospect or pick?

Discuss!
You've GOT to be kidding!!!!!

The Caps would be lucky to have someone grab him, even on re-entry!

And if you're wondering what the Caps fans think of Nylander, have a look at their board.

You ask if we should move Plekanec and plug in Nylander? Are you Rejean Houle?

grab Nylander on re-entry and convert him to winger, this will help us much more.

Not even close, I can think of many...MANY, other threads I would consider first.

I do agree with you though, the thought of trading Plekanec and replacing him with Nylander is not something I think Gainey would even consider.

I don't think you should even look at trading Plek part. He's not going anywhere and I hope we re-sign him. Obviously moving him at this point would be incredibly stupid.
Adding Nylander as a depth move would be a good move though. He's another lefty, but we need to add someone to our center line.
The thought of losing one of Gomez or Plek to an injury scares me.

We would seriously be completely screwed if that were to happen.

On re-entry waiver maybe. But I knew we should take a chance on Prospal, damn it.

You do realize the Cap hit is ridiculous and that Nylander is 10 years Pleks senior too...not to mention his production has dropped and he couldn't get it going with offensive players in Washington and you expect him to get it all turned around in Montreal under the microscope?

I say re-sign Pleks and trade some of the kids on the farm to get the player we need in the top 6.

Michal Nylander is also a winger as well as a center but at this stage of his career with all his constant injuries, I don't see the point unless he comes on the cheap.

Might as well pick up Peter Forsberg too so they can both sit up in the press box on crutches and watch.

Nylander was sent to the AHL for a conditionning stint. A player sent to the minors for conditionning purposes does not have clear waivers. This post has no value since Nylander can't be picked up on waivers.

That's true - but the Caps themselves have placed him on waivers, so he is available.

He came back from his stint in the AHL and THEN was put in waivers.

If we could get them to take a trade for gomez, i might consider it.

Nylander, given top line minutes between gionta/cammelleri and given the PP minutes that go with it would not be much of a downgrade, production wise.

then he's only on the books for 1 more season and frees up almost 3M for this year and next.

Some people will get up and arms about it, but let's face it, Gomez is not and will not be any where close to the 80+ point player he was that one season. He's a ~60 point guy who plays well in the playoff. At 4-5M, he's a good asset, at 7.4M, he's a burden.

We need to resign Plekanec, and wait until we have either a great draft(either by using a high pick well, or by using a 10-20 pick to land a #1 centre... yes, lot's of the top line talent in the league right now were picked in that range, or later)., or a GM/Pro scouting staff capable of targeting and landing a guy primed for that king of break out.

Waiting out the next 5 years hoping Gomez can become that dominant centre for us is just foolish. Not going to happen.

Plus, if Nylander really is finished, and not just in decline because he was taken away from prime ice time/linemates, then the team will just struggle a little more and wind up with an even higher pick in what is said to be the bests draft since 2003 (which, if it is the case, the wise thing to do would be to either use a high pick to trade down and double up in the first round, if possible, or make a trade or two near the deadline to get another 1st round pick).
