Staios

He had 2 assists tonight and 5 blocked shots. His previous game played very well using his body, your thoughts.I hear people complaining before and since he was hurt ,people realized while he was hurt that maybe the oilers do need him.

I've never question Staios' heart and determination, I just thought that he had lost a big time step. That said, I didn't think that his absence would be all that big of a deal, but it was. He and Souray may make errors out there but they'll always attempt to rectify those errors, which is something that Grebeshkov and Gilbert can't or won't do.

With all the talk about Ottawa needing a shutdown guy, I wonder if Tambo can pull a fast one tomorrow and trade Steady Steve to Ottawa since they seen him at his best.

Great that he had a solid game though, I think he is still a great 5-6 defenseman, and I wouldn't even complain about his contract so much if it wasn't for the fact that we have so many other bad contracts around here.

The oilers do have alot of horrible contracts,Staois is not one of my favorites either.Quinn had Staois playing with souray this year.In my opinion we have to trade one of the 4 offensive defensemen the oilers have in order to get another shut down defensemen. The oilers give far to many shots and scoring chances.

I'm not sure if it was more of a case of we missed Staios as it was a case of Strudwick/Peckham were not the greatest for a stretch. If Souray was in the lineup, would this thread exist?

Staios isn't that good anymore, but at least he shows up and gives it his best every night.

Moreau should take notes
.

I still remember the game in Washington awhile back when he completely shutdown Ovechkin, lol. When it was over they showed a 1 minute reel of Stevey Stay-At-Home making fantastic plays containing #8. It was hilarious.

QFT.

Staios is a heart and soul guy, and his determination and sacrifice for the club should never be questioned...but tonight was an example of the Steve Staios when he was still in his prime, and unfortunately we've seen less and less of that from #24.

His overall play continues to decline, and given his contract, he's certainly expendable.

The guy is a warrior and will never short his team and teammates on effort. His presence has been missed. Key is for Staios to keep his game simple and to not play too many minutes when his aggressive play and limitations can become exposed.

I have alot of respect for character players who have had to work their ass off to make the NHL and contribute.

He well play out his contract here and then probably ride into the sun set. I am sure the organization and him realize his decline. He earned his contract from when he was in his prime.

I think he is needed right now since the oilers are short in the shutdown defensemen area...Besides Staios, the oilers have smid(gonna be a pimp) and sometimes strudwick....Souray,Lubo,gilbert,Grebs...all offensive...no good to have that many offensive defensemen.Dunno what Chorney is just yet.
