I find it interesting when they call a concussion "dizzyness" or something strange, but won't call it a concussion and then all of a sudden we never see them again. Kim Johnsson and Simon Gagne both went through that.

Didn't they say Kim Johnsson had sinus problems?

Updates from Philly.com and CSNPhilly (side note -- Senators, not Sabres):

Quote:
For the first time in nearly 3 weeks, the Flyers had a full team – or as close as they are going to get with Simon Gagne out for at least another 6 weeks – at practice on Tuesday.

Here is a quick rundown of the latest injury updates:
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...o_Healthy.html

Quote:
Briere and Parent are also fully recovered from the flu. In fact, the entire club seems back to normal health.

If van Riemsdyk and Briere both play, then David Laliberte would be sent back to the Phantoms.

On defense, the Flyers are being cautious, keeping Oskars Bartulis here to play for Tollefsen. If Bartulis were to play, he would be the second Flyer of Latvian descent since Mike Knuble, who was an American player by birth.

Incidentally, Bartulis said he is “under consideration” to represent his country in the Vancouver Olympic Games. Latvia has one of the smallest Olympic rosters in hockey.

Of course, it’s uncertain whether Bartulis will make his NHL debut on Thursday against the Sabres.

“When you are a young kid, you are always dreaming about this and now you are here, so here is your chance,” said the 22-year-old. “I thought my training camp was pretty good. Everyone was happy with how I played. I think it was pretty good.”

OKT coming back early has FAIL written all over it.... ****, Id rather lose a couple now to injuries than lose a guy all year due to coming back too early.. OKT has been a good player this year.

you are the right person to ask, but I always thought Knuble was Canadian. Everything has him listed as Canadian, but I also heard he was American too, I know he played College hockey here.

Gormley wrote this piece last year regarding Knuble's family:

http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=436113

Quote:
When Mara Knuble climbed onto a boat and fled war-torn Latvia with her mother and grandmother at the age of 4 -- never to see her father again -- she did it as an act of survival, not inspiration.

When she spent five years in a displaced persons camp in Lubeck, Germany, rationing food and waiting for the day she could call America her home, Mara Knuble was seeking opportunity, not appreciation.

When her husband died suddenly at the age of 45, leaving her to raise two teenage boys, Mara Knuble relied on her maternal instincts – and hockey – to provide what was needed.

All along her two sons, Flyers right wing Mike Knuble and his younger brother, Steve, were watching and listening and learning.
Quote:
Eventually, both families migrated to Detroit before settling in a Latvian community in Grand Rapids, Mich., where Mara and Aivars re-acquainted and eventually married.

Although Mike and Steve Knuble were born in Toronto, where their father worked as a marketing director for Steelcase Office Furniture, both were raised in Grand Rapids, where they learned more about their Latvian heritage.

Knuble was born in Canada (Toronto), raised in the US and he holds a dual citizenship if my memory serves me correctly.

Seems like Parent and Tollefsen are a no-go for Thursday but Briere will play. Still needs to get clearance from doc though.

Here is what Tim P. wrote:

http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/landi...497&feedID=695

Quote:
Stevens expects Briere (right quad pull) and James van Riemsdyk (fractured left pinky) to play. … Ryan Parent (right groin pull) is out; Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (concussion) remains doubtful which is why Phantoms call-up Oskars Bartulius remained here. … Parent says he expects to play Saturday night against Buffalo.
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/..._some_out.html

Quote:
If the news on Tuesday – that almost all of the injured Flyers had returned to the ice for practice – was positive, then Wednesday must be considered mixed.

No, there weren’t any new injuries to report. It just seems that both Ryan Parent (groin) and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (concussion) are not 100-percent ready to return to the lineup in time for Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.

The good news, though, is that it looks like Danny Briere (quad) and James van Riemsdyk (broken & stitched pinkie) will be able to play on Thursday.

“They’re all back on the ice, they’re all participants at practice,” Flyers coach John Stevens said. “We hope to get them all back this weekend at some point.”

Briere hasn’t played since he injured his quad (right above the knee) on Oct. 27 in Washington. The often complained about schedule gap has allowed Briere to miss just 4 games.

I'm hoping Danny doesn't sissy out mid way through the game.

Sweet, Briere and JvR will be ready to play. Hooray for offense! I wonder though, will this send down Laliberte then?

*the following does not necessarily represent the opinions of John Stevens or the Flyers organization

vanRiemsdyk - Carter - Briere
Hartnell - Richards - Giroux
Powe - Pyorala - Asham/Laliberte
Carcillo - Betts - Laperriere
Cote

It's possible.

I'd rather take Laliberta over Asham for right now.

i was just relieved/surprised to hear it was a quad and not his groin. but i agree, its early and you'd rather him sit out an extra game or two rather than risk doing further damage and being out for an extended period.

Stevens said that Laliberte has not displaced any of the starters. That said I'd much rather they sit Danny out for a few and let Laliberte stay up.

Don't worry, Stevens will play that pairing for all of 3 mins tonight, haha.
