Isn't the horn usually located above the scoreboard at center ice? Would certainly make adjusting the volume easier.

Last night was the first time I really saw a noticeable delay, I think it was on the Parise goal - I guess the guy wanted to make sure the refs signaled goal and didn't blow the whistle first.

The first game in use it nearly caused fans to piss their pants as they had it up WAY loud. The finally got it dialed in and that is exactly what you're hearing now.

It was a train horn if I recall correctly.
I remember that first game w/the real horn...I think they played against the Thrashers. I remember thinking "Damn that's loud." It was light-years ahead of the the Hurricanes knock-off version they has started the season with. The first game they played at the Rock against Ottawa, when I heard that neutered goal horn for the first time I rewound it four or five times, thinking to myself, "What in God's name happened to the best goal horn in the business?!"

Where did you hear that, about the Devils not being able to take the old horns with them? That's the first I've heard of it.

Yeah, I believe it is above the scoreboard and it isn't a train horn, it's from some type of ship that I cannot remember at the time.

Whatever it is, I like our goal horn. Some of the ones out in the league are just terrible. San Jose has a fog horn, you can barely hear it its so low. Ottawa's makes me want to stab my eardrums. Washington's siren is stupid.

Me too! If you go to that 2ksports site where you can download the goal horns, you can hear that no other team has the same one as us which is what I like.

Ottawa has the best horn in the league, along with Dallas imo. It's one of those horns that get's you even more excited after a goal.

it was all part of the lead-up to the opening night... there was blogs and posts about it somewhere - on the devils website or tg's blog. I remember thinking how typical that was for CAA to be jerks yet again and refuse to sell the horns.

then there was some sort of update when some people complained about the "recorded horn" sound and they let loose the info that the horns they purchased were delayed in arriving and installation.

It's all fuzzy now on specifics, it was a long time ago (and many many cocktails ago).

I'll take this anyday over the we suck threads after a single loss.

Complaining about the guy who does the goal horn, at least the team is putting him to work.

It's true. The Devils wanted to keep their goal horn. The NJSEA said no, because they can, and that was that.

I don't know about that. It's such a harsh note, the musician in me wants to cringe. Dallas is ok.

How silly. It's not like they were using them, they just did that to piss off the Devils.

Washington's annoys me. Probably my least favorite.

I saw a vintage game on NHLN the other day though, and the old Washington one was even worse. Made your ears bleed.

Thanks for that info guys. That really is unbelievable. All this time I thought it was the Devils organization that had made the change, to why my response was "WHY WHY WHY?!" So it comes down to nothing more than petty nonsense as to why the best goal horn in the league was silenced...pathetic.

St. Louis has my favorite horn. That deep billowing tug boat horn just resonates so well.

I agree, that's a good one. I've expressed my admiration for Buffalo's horn in the past. That rising siren underneath the main horn gives me chills sometimes.

For goal songs, of course I love Rock and Roll Part 2. I like Zombie Nation, although I guess some others don't. The Hawks have a good thing going with Chelsea Dagger. But nothing, absolutely nothing, will ever beat Brass Bonanza.

The NJSEA is really something...

The Devils we're the only hockey team in that complex (forget one or two years of that Roller Hockey International joke), and they made that goal horn famous... Now, they want to keep it to themselves so it can collect dust, perhaps as a souvenir of when the CAA was actually home to a SUCCESSFUL pro sports franchise. (Cough, Nets Blow, Cough.)

**** the Meadowlands, I'm glad we got out of that dump.

They're keeping it for when the Islanders move in...

My favorite is Colorado's. So obnoxious and still has the Hey song afterword.

Could be...

There's more than enough surrounding swamps and marshes for the area to be considered an "island."

Maybe they'll even keep the "New York" moniker in suit of the Giants and Jets.

This horn epitomizes "annoying," but nothing can match the sheer creativity of the Avalanche Warning used by the Avs during their 2001 Stanley Cup campaign... And yes, it has RRP2.
