well I have to work and will miss seeing this game, so it will probably be the game of the season, that is the way it usually goes for me.

How many hits will Tootoo throw before Blues fans start crying about how they wish King was playing?

With Scatchard going to Milwaukee, either Dumont or Wilson has to play: no way Trotz would let Wade "Chemical Weapon" Belak out there.

Janssen is in, so King's absence is trivial....if someone wants to drop the gloves.

I hope we get to see some more Belak vs Janssen sometime this year. I love the rivalry those two have.

Not to nitpick but how can Rinne be 29th and Mason 24th with the same number of wins?

...and how can having zero OTL's be considered bad (36th) compared to 3 (4th)- that is a funny stat.

Good gdt. Thanks.

Where is the news re Scatch?

Finally, some divisional games! I haven't followed the Preds more closely than the NHL Network highlights. Seem to have started slowly, but getting better results the past week or so. To Predator's fans: Why the slow start and what's different?

As for the Blues: We had a couple nice wins over a declining (I said it) Detroit team in Sweden, and then have been in a funk for a while. Even with the losing streak, the Blues were playing better prior to exploding against Vancouver. Most Blues fan are interested to see if that was an indication of finally getting some momentum, or if the team will slide back into a scoring drought.

For the most part, the goaltending has been solid (Mason is living up to last season), but just not enough goals. Kariya is down on the 4th (checking) line now (although to be fair, McClement's line has been pretty offensively productive despite their role). He's also off the top two PP units.

Keep your eyes on Lars Eller #61. Probably the last of the upper tier offensive prospects for the Blues for a little while. But seeing him on the line with Oshie and Berglund is pretty exciting. That line has been playing well and is due for some point production.

Here's to a great divisional game!

Surprised to hear that about Kariya. Is this a permanent thing until he gets his act together? Will he turn it around? I've always been jealous of the forward prospects you guys have. Still wish we drafted Perron instead of Blum.

As for us, our troubles have been from a bunch of little things...
-Inconsistent goaltending
-Young defensemen growing pains
-Almost no secondary scoring (looking at you Legwand and Erat)
-Bunch of early injures (Dumont x2, Arnott, Weber, Hamhuis, Tootoo, Wilson, Erat, Ward, probably more that I'm forgetting)
-Because of the injuries, our #1 line has only played together for like 2 games
-Only players that have been steady all year are Hornqvist, Suter, and Weber

Compared to last year, this team is younger, and a little better balanced. We lost some defensive guys, but gained some offensive guys. We'll have Sullivan for a full year (fingers crossed), but he needs to start producing. Our bottom six and PK is weaker, but we now have 3 lines who can (theoretically) score. We also lost a little bit of grit.

Kariya had a couple good games in Sweden against the Redwings, and then has done little since. He was ineffective at the point on the PP, but by no means was that the only problem. They've done a bit better since moving him off, but I'm not convinced it wouldn't have happened regardless.

The McCrombSteen (McClement centering Steen/Crombeen) line has been the best of the season. Since Steen's injury, whoever they've put at wing has really gotten it going. That includes Perron, Oshie and now Kariya. Even though he didn't register on the score sheet, Kariya was a lot more active and involved that last couple games. I wouldn't be the least surprised if he notches a couple points tonight.

The more interesting question to me is what becomes of Kariya next year. He's UFA and doesn't exactly fit well into the Blues' plans. That $6M salary off the books looks nice. If he were willing to resign for say $2M and accept a smaller role, I can see him staying. I think its more likely someone will pay him more on a top two line and he's gone. But his play has not projected a high salary.

I also expect him to work his way back onto the PP soon. It will be interesting to see where Eller winds up. I'm holding out hope that he'll stick in the NHL, but its more likely he'll get tired and less productive. For now, he's injected a lot of energy and jump into Berglund's game. The line with those two and Oshie is looking great. If for no other reason, Eller should stay up.

Thing is, he's physical enough (even for a young rookie, actually...remarkably despite being a young rookie) that he can contribute on the PP too. However, if he sticks in St Louis, it probably means the end of Winchester's tenure barring injury to someone else. For now, Winchester is the healthy scratch waiting for someone else to play their way off the line-up.

The Blues are also carrying 8 defensemen right now. Pietro and Cola are healthy scratches tonight. Pietro will be back in as soon as Weaver has a bad game. Colaiacovo sounds like he was heading toward the doghouse, got a bad case of the flu.....and now has to play his way back into the line-up. But either he or Weaver will end up being moved (unless injury opens things up, which is always likely in the NHL).

Pietro has one more free game before he's committed to the NHL. But in reality I think the decision has been made already. He'll stay up, but be in and out of the line-up to keep from wearing him out.

Alright, let's drop the puck already!
