Are people realistically expecting the Rangers to make a run (or for that matter, be ABLE to make a run) for Ilya Kovalchuk?

I like the optimism that we will score two.

As much as I desperately want Kovalchuk, is anyone else worried he's gonna resign ala Rick Nash?

intersting observation: we have the #2 pk unit while taking the most penalties in the league I believe. So much for our PK suffering w/o Sjo and Betts.

I'm actually more worried that he will not resign causing Sather to Sign him at $11mil per year for 12 years.

Well, ya know, #30 is still here

But also, the D and guys like Gabby, Drury, Cally, Boyle have been equally as effective on the PK.

Couldn't have said it better..

or, he might make a run for Eric Belanger. I could see a 5-year, $27.5 million contract on the table from Sather.

absolutely, its what alot of people (including myself and I believe you as well) have said in the offseason.

now start your Bluenote Fact of the Day thread. and the mods should sticky it.

I liked Betts & Shoey, but they were small potatoes, and I knew Torts wasn't a fan.

Nah, it'd be boring going up against The Mouth's latest obnoxious video opus

I liked them as well, but I knew they were completely replaceable. I thought Torts was a fan of Sjostrom though. he put him all over the lineup.

First off, I wouldn't count on Kovalchuk being a Ranger.

Secondly, if Anisimov plans on becoming anything more than a 3rd liner he needs to step it up, starting tonight. None of the soft play from him. He needs to be stronger on the puck.

well i agree with that but, to me, hes been every bit as good as dubi has so far and maybe even better.

say what you will about his foot speed, but once he gets the puck on his stick, he can make some nice power moves to the front and create plenty of chances with his size.

the spotlight is certainly on him starting tonight.

his forchecking, and hitting is nowhere near Dubi yet. Ani has the least hits on the team. In the offensive zone he probably is as good as dubi and sometimes I think he might be better. But as a whole player he is behind. Also he can't lead the rush yet like Dubi, and get into the zone as easier.

He really needs to get more physical, and take the body more, and just be more aggressive overall.

Hands: AA
Speed: Dubi
Agression: Dubi
Forecheck: Dubi
Shot: AA
Passing: Dubi
Defense: AA (close though)
Faceoffs: Dubi

The gap will close next season, and i see AA leap frogging Dubi in 2 seasons.

disagree.

i just dont see brandon dubinsky as having a very high hockey iq. too me, he plays a spirited game but without purpose and offensively, dubi is really kinda clueless.

arty is more competent defensively and but for nhl game experience and the confidence that comes from time on nhl ice, hes better than dubi right now in pretty much every other area. and that includes passing the puck

the only part of the game where brandon brings more consistently is hitting and straight line speed but as a puck handler and in fact, skating with the puck on his stick, its arty over brandon and its not even close.

Anisimov needs to focus on his skating speed a bit more. Its really noticeable.

I wouldn't expect to see a change from him in this area. It has to do with his personality and that is something you can't change.

if this team was going to be "mr softee", i wouldve much rather kept sjo for the 3rd/4th line and done away with the "enforcer" role all together. The pk has been fine but the loss of dru and dubi will test the depth of the pk, sjo sure wouldve been nice to have around right about now.

Just want to say that it is very brave of Lisin to be playing with a broken foot. I have a feeling that if someone like Callahan or Staal was doing the same there would be threads praising them but since its Lisin I will just say I hope he does well and people start to notice the fact that the kid has some guts.
