I seen this in the Thrashers board and decided that in our current state, it might be good to see that as awful as we're playing, this team could be worse (Maybe?).
I'd have to vote Wallin, Melichar and Malik (But he does have an uber cool shootout goal ) for our defense. I think Vasicek is a lock IMO. Other forwards like Daniels, Vestlund, Carter and Brendl are mentionable. Goaltending is a mystery to me. We've had guys like Weekes, Irbe, Gerber and Kidd all make stops here. Some were terrible here but had success elsewhere and some were good here only to be a bookmark on other benches.
Also, what current players have warranted being on this team? Sammy? I would think A.Ward but he was an important component to this team in the past (Ignoring his terrible 02-03 season as that team was just garbage in general).
I think, call-ups should be ignored as we've had enough had roster players that this line-up should fill out. Any input?

I doubt any of the current players deserve to be there. They were all decent here at one time or another. I'll throw out some names: Anson Carter, Wade Brookbank, Marty Murray, Oleg Tverdovsky, Tomas Malec, Allen Rourke, and Bruno St. Jacques. The goaltending is really easy for me too: Jamie Storr. He was absolutely terrible and did not finish with a single win that year. John Grahame and Tyler Moss can also be considered.
I find it impossible to take seriously a thread by somebody who can't even properly tense a verb.
Well considering this is a thread about the worst regulars to ever play for the Hurricanes, I don't think you being serious or not is a concern.

Personally, I don't think Sammy deserves to be on this team either, but he's consistently been one of the most criticized players on this team, just food for thought.

Either way Enrico Ciccone HAS to be on this team.
for horrible short stint wonders:
Joey Tetarenko
Nikos Tselios
Mike Watt
Josh Holden
Harold Druken
Niklas Nordgren
hell, Nikos is an epic enough bust to bump either Tverdovsky, Tanabe or Rourke from the list.
I think we should only try to incorporate regulars, or players who were intended to be regulars who just didn't work out that way (i.e. Melichar).
Only one that would make it from that list would be Nordgren (and Ciccone) then, but god did he ever make that list.
The biggest thing I will push for Tselios to make this team with is that he was a 1st round pick of ours. While he only played 2 games, the fact that he was a first round pick and only played 2 games for us makes him a top candidate in my books.

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether or not we should consider failed prospects who played limited time in the big leagues. But considering his substantial AHL/IHL/OHL time and development period only to flop hard in the NHL, I think he's worth putting him on.
But, I do believe NHL regulars should get priority. I think a guy like Tommy Vestlund who spent quite a bit of time here and really didn't do anything should get the first pick over a prospect who flopped. Just my opinion, all input is welcome.
Westlund is actually an interesting case. He was a lot less then expected offensively, but in terms of his two-way game he actually proved to be a pretty good 4th liner until injuries derailed his career.
I just think some people have been using Samsonov as a whipping boy. He has been playing pretty damn well lately.
Of course. The idea of this thread is to have some fun remembering the terrible players we've had over the years and put our current state into perspective. If Sammy is our most criticized player, then we aren't in a big a hole as it seems. It's just a matter of effort from everyone on and off the ice.
Every team has their scapegoat. A lot of it is unjustified but that's the sign of progress. When all the criticisms become true and the scape goat truly is the problem, that's when a team really has to be worried.
I looked at some old teams on hockey-reference, this is what I came up with:
Niklas Nordgren - Eric Belanger - Anson Carter
Scott Pellerin - Marty Murray - Steven Rice
Stephen Leach - Jeff Hamilton - Patrick Eaves
Wade Brookbank - Craig MacDonald - Trevor Letowski
Josef Melichar - Andrew Hutchinson
Tomas Malec - Steve Halko
Enrico Ciccone - Bruno St Jacques
John Grahame
Jamie Storr
"Top" Prospects: LW Pavel Brendl, D Nikos Tselios, D Igor Knyazev, G Patrick Desrochers
its such a shame to see Letowski, Belanger, and Hamilton all being mentioned. JR's illustrious post-cup free agent class.......and they all make the worst of all time. sigh That offseason may compete with this one.
It breaks my heart seeing so many people talk about Tverdovsky.
I personally don't have anything against the guy and he was our best defenseman that season until his PCS started acting up not long into the year. That said, it's a close call with 4 defensemen that deserve that slot and he's one of them. Tanabe, Ozolinsh, Rourke and Tverdovsky were all pretty brutal at times. Tanabe just lasted longer so I changed my vote there.
