I doubt any of the current players deserve to be there. They were all decent here at one time or another. I'll throw out some names: Anson Carter, Wade Brookbank, Marty Murray, Oleg Tverdovsky, Tomas Malec, Allen Rourke, and Bruno St. Jacques. The goaltending is really easy for me too: Jamie Storr. He was absolutely terrible and did not finish with a single win that year. John Grahame and Tyler Moss can also be considered.
I think that is close to my core group. Storr definitely gets the start for this team.
I know he played well elsewhere, but do we have room for Ozolinsh? Pretty bad while here.
I swear, one day i'm going to get the courage to sport that thing to the RBC but I just can't bring myself to do it. I bet half the people that saw it would just assume it was personalized.
To be fair, I would think it was rather awesome. I loved that guy. Tiny little guy, killer shot from the point, and was great on the PP, at least until other teams learned that all it takes was a little pressure to make him do something rushed or stupid.
I don't think he belongs on this list.
However, if we're going for regulars, how about Craig Adams? I realize he brought a physical aspect and all that, but otherwise he couldn't play. Turned pucks over, clueless in the offensive zone... He's managed to reinvent himself in pittsburgh, but I never thought too much of him here.
And I know I'm going to get flak for that, a lot of people seemed to love him.
And Letowski is probably a good choice for this list.
Oh, and the Tanabe talk makes me sad. The year he came back he was finally breaking out- much better positionally, played pretty good D and was moving the puck decently. Then he got that career ending concussion. He could have finally gotten his career in order, been one of those lifelong #4 defensive guys, and it ends at a game I was at, and nobody there even noticed it. The hit was away from the play, he managed to get off the ice and he just never came back.
I always thought Hlavac was pretty awful in his time here.
He wasn't great by any means, but I don't think he knocks anyone off the roster that Dave offered. His stats: 52 GP/9 G/15 A. Not awful. Plus he had that hat trick against Detroit...if nothing else, that should keep him off of this roster.
Halko should replace Tanabe on D. He was as much a "regular" as Malec was.
Chris Dingman and Rob DiMaio deserve consideration.
it's odd. I had Sarge on my list of players over the various years to consider and totally forgot about him. He may in fact trump Tanabe on my list.
Dinger I wanted to include but... I just can't find a way to put him lower then any of the ones I listed except for Nordgren. Leach was terrible given the expectations, Pellerin was the original waste of a draft pick deadline pickup before Carter came around, and Brookbank was the goon that would never fight. Nordgren was just a disappointment in most every way despite getting shot after shot on our 3rd line, but is that worse then Dingman? Tough call.
DiMaio just simply can't match any of our 4 RWs, that's a pretty epic list of suck/bust right there.

ive seen hard times.
I know this was the worst you've seen, but this is like a 3 year snapshot of the Whalers. Needs more Gilles Luppien. I can't believe no one from either era of the franchise has mentioned Paul Coffey. He was god awful with the Whalers, and might have been even worse with the Hurricanes.
